The first reading of the Dupont Borough 2010 budget took place at Tuesday’s regular monthly meeting of Borough Council. Borough Manager Patty McDonald is continuing to work on balancing the budget and is awaiting the final 2008 audit report, estimates from Bernheimer Insurance Carrier and other revenue and expense information with projected figures for 2010.
The second reading of the proposed 2010 budget is scheduled for regular monthly Council meeting on November 10 with final adoption at the December regular meeting. Public inspection of the budget will available for 10 days after the November 10 meeting at the municipal office during regular business hours.
On Oct. 21 at 10:00 a.m., Borough Manager Patty McDonald, Council President Stan Knick and Council Member Ed Kowalczyk, will be picked up and transported to jail as part of the MDA fundraiser. Bail has been sent at $3,000 and to date they have raised $1,800.
Patty, Stan and Ed would like to thank all residents, businesses and patrons who contributed through various fundraising events or private donations. You still can make a contribution to save Patty and Company from jail, donations are being accepted up to 10:00 a.m. on the Oct. 21. Residents can stop by the borough office on Wednesday, to see the group prior to their arrest. Coffee and refreshments will be served.
The Fred Lokuta Golf Tournament Committee presented a check in the amount of $1,500 to Borough Council. The donation will be used for the Children’s Holiday Fund which will help with the costs of the annual Children’s Christmas Party.
The monthly food distribution sponsored by the Lions Club will be held on Thursday, October 22 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Lackawanna Ave. from 4:30 to 5:30. All qualifying residents of Dupont and Suscon are eligible.
The Eco-Action Club has resumed its fall meetings and will meet every Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at the municipal building. On the first and second Tuedays of the month the club will meet for one hour and on the third and fourth Tuesdays’ the club will meet for an hour and a half to two hours so that club members can work on activities.
Stop by the borough building to view the display designed by Eco-Action Club members regarding reducing our carbon footprint. Remember: Every day is Earth Day.

The Dupont Fire Company will present a Comedy Night on Saturday, November 14 at hose company home on Main Street. There will be a $10.00 cover charge. Food will be available and there will be a cash bar. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. with the show start of 8:00 p.m. Tickets are available from any member of the hose company.
The Dupont Borough Property Owners Association has invited the Luzerne-Wyoming Counties Agency on Aging to speak to borough residents on Wednesday, November 4 at 7p.m. at the borough building. Gerry Chickeletti, Community Liaison, will cover a verity of topics, including eligibility for in-house services, re-careering as a mature individual, and long term living options.
VFW Post 4909 will hold their next meeting on Monday, November 2 at 7:30 p.m
The Dupont VFW Post 4909 Home Association will hold its 64th Anniversary Dinner Dance on Saturday, November 7 at the Post Home. For tickets and reservations visit Bob Lopata at the VFW or call Bob at 654-9104. Deadline is Friday, November 6. All PLBC regulations apply.
The Dupont VFW Post 4909 holds polka dances every Sunday from 2 to 6pm with an admission price of $12.00. Scheduled for the remainder of Oct is: October 18 - Joe Stanky and Oct. 25 - The Pennsylvania Villagers. For more information call Bob Lopata at 654-9104 or 655-0760.
The Dupont Public Works Department will no longer take reservations for bulk pickups or truck drop offs..
A senior bingo sponsored by the Senior Citizen’s Outreach Committee of Sacred Heart Church will be held next Sunday, Oct. 25, in the church hall. All parishioners 60 and older of Sacred Heart Parish and Holy Mother of Sorrows Parish are welcome to attend. There will be no admission fee. The Committee will also sponsor a Bake Sale to be held on the weekend of Oct 31 and Nov. 1. Baked good donations can be delivered to the church hall on Saturday, Oct 31 beginning at 1:00 p.m.
