The Old Forge American Legion Post 513 will hold a flea market and bake sale today from 12-5 p.m. at the Legion Post.
The Old Forge Coal Mining website, www.oldforgecoalmine.com, is seeking information on former coal miners who worked in the Old Forge mines.
If you are a descendent or relative of a coal miner, or someone who worked in and around the mines, and passed away from January 2009 to the present please contact Carl Orechovsky at 451-0566 or info@oldforgecoalmine.com to have their name added on our memorial.
The Old Forge School District will hold a 100th anniversary committee meeting on Wednesday, November 4 at 3:30 p.m. in the elementary library for anyone interested in becoming a member.
If you have volunteered for the committee please contact the superintendent’s office at 457-6721 if you are able to attend.
Volunteers for the committee are still being sought, and anyone is welcome to attend to the meeting.
St. Michael’s Russian Orthodox Church will hold a pierogi sale on November 10 with pickup from 2-5 p.m.
The cost is $5 per dozen. Orders need to be placed by Nov. 6 and can be placed by calling 562-3965; 586-2632; 457-9280 or 457-2875.
Old Forge Borough Recreation Board will meet November 4 at 7 p.m. at the Old Forge Community Park.
Nicole VanLuvender, Old Forge Elementary Principal, and Christopher C. Thomas, Old Forge High School Principal, have announced the following information regarding the Old Forge School District’s November Calendar.
The end of the first marking period is Thurs., Nov. 5 with report cards set to be distributed on Nov. 18.
There will also be a half day of school on Nov. 18 with dismissal beginning at 11 a.m. in the high school and 11:20 a.m. in the elementary.
Parent-teacher conferences will be held on Thurs., Nov. 19 and Fri., Nov. 20 from 1-3:30 p.m. in the elementary and 12:30-3 p.m. in the high school. Students will be dismissed on both days at 11:20 a.m. in the elementary and 11:30 a.m. in the high school. Title I Parent-Teacher conferences will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Elementary Cafeteria on Nov. 19.
After school tutoring is cancelled for Nov. 19 due to parent-teacher conferences.
There will be no school on Wed., Nov. 11 in remembrance of Veterans’ Day and from Nov. 26-30 for Thanksgiving Break.
Pennsylvania’s Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program begins on Nov. 2.
LIHEAP provides cash grants to help low-income families pay their regular home-heating bills. A family of four with an annual income of up to $33,075 can qualify for assistance. Cash grants are based on income, family size, type of heating fuel and region.
In addition to proof of income and household size, applicants must provide a recent bill or a statement from their fuel dealer verifying the customer status and the type of fuel that they use.
To apply for LIHEAP, residents can visit the state Department of Public Welfare’s Web site at www.dpw.state.pa.us and type "LIHEAP" in the Keyword search box.
Residents can also apply by calling 570-963-4842 in Lackawanna County to obtain an application through their local county assistance office.
The Old Forge Boys Roundball Club will sponsor a bus trip to New York City on November 22, leaving the OFHS Parking Lot at 7:30 a.m. and leaving NYC at 7 p.m.

The Old Forge High School Class of 1950 will hold a Christmas Part on December 4 at Brutico’s.
Any classmate interested in attending is asked to contact Doris at 457-5059.
The Old Forge Retired Citizens group will meet November 4 at 2 p.m. at Arcaro & Genell’s. Reservations for the Christmas Dinner on Dec. 14 will be taken. For more info, call 457-3530 or 457-3159.
