DUPONT
Avoca/Dupont Little League will hold registrations on Monday, Feb. 8, Tuesday, Feb.9 and Wednesday, Feb 10 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the upper Avoca Little League field clubhouse. Signups are for tee ball, coach pitch, minor baseball and softball, major baseball and softball, junior baseball and softball and senior baseball.
Registration fee is $50.000 per player and $60.00 per family with junior and senior baseball being $50.00 each player. For more information call 457-4385.
The Dupont Softball/Tee Ball Organization is conducting signups on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Dupont Polish Club, side entrance lower level. Cost is $15.00 for tee ball-girls and boys ages 3 to 7; $35.00 for softball girls ages 8 to 18 plus fundraiser per player.

The Robert C. Edwards Scholarship Foundation Scholarship Applications are available at the Dupont municipal office. The scholarships will be awarded to students that will enroll in a college, university or school which offers a two or a four year degree/certificate program.
The scholarship is for the first year (freshman) at the college, university or school. Interested students can pick up the needed forms during regular business hours at the borough building. Applications must be received by May 4. Another scholarship program available is the Stream of Learning awarded by the Pennsylvania American Water Company. Deadline on this scholarship is February 12.
Dupont resident, Paul P. Trzcinski of Wyoming Ave is in basic training in San Antonio, Texas, for the United States Air Force. Paul, an Eagle Scout with Dupont Troop 361, is a graduated of Pittston Area High School, Class of 2008.
Dupont Borough Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 9, in the James Cocco Council Chamber beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The Avoca AOH will have an important meeting on Thursday, Feb. 25 at the West Side Social Club on McAlpine St. in West Avoca. This meeting will cover the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day parade and the Friendly Sons of St Patrick dinner. Also, plans for putting up the Irish banners on Main St and McAlpine St. will be discussed. All members are urged to attend. Refreshments will be served.
Dupont Borough is still seeking old articles and pictures of Dupont dating back to 1917 to be displayed in the borough building, at the Party in the Park, and also to publish as part of the 100th anniversary of Dupont Borough. Chairman, Martha Doran will host a meeting for senior residents of the borough this spring to review the materials collected and share stories of Dupont’s past.
Sacred Heart Holy Name Society is now conducting their spring 300 Club Drawing. Tickets are $10.00 each and can be purchased from any member. Mark Kulick is chairman of this year’s event.
Residents are reminded that building permits are required for all types of remodeling work. Special permits are required for major work including plumbing, heating, electrical, insulation, roofing, new construction, additions, etc. For more information contact the borough office. Zoning permits are also required for major projects. Anyone doing work without a permit will be forwarded to the County Zoning and UCC Code inspection Office for further enforcement.
The Dupont Lions Club will hold a meeting on Monday Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m. at the VFW Post on Main St. All members are urged to attend. Remember you can drop off your unused eyeglasses at the Dupont Municipal building.
The Dupont VFW Post 4909 Home Association will hold its annual Valentine’s Day Dinner –Dance on Saturday, Feb. 13 at the home, 401-403 Main Street. A romantic dinner will be served from 7:30 to 8:45 and the fantastic Template will be playing for your dancing and listening pleasure from 9:00 to 1:00 a.m. The bar will be open from 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Great door prizes will be awarded.

The 45th Annual “All You Can Eat” Breakfast sponsored by the Dupont Volunteer Hose Company #1will be held on Sunday, March 7 at the hose company home from 7:00 a.m. to noon. Tickets for adults are $7.00 and children under 12 $4.00 and can be purchased from any hose company volunteer. In union a match the evening daily Lottery will be held from March 29 to May 1. There will be a meeting at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church for all parents whose children are in 2nd grade, in private, Catholic or public school, preparing to celebrate First Penance and First Holy Communion. The meeting will be held in the school building beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16.

Residents are asked to please make sure shredded paper is in a plastic bag. Please do not place shredded paper in containers. This becomes a problem with when the loose paper blows back onto the roads while being unloaded into the packer.
