Park Closes at 7

The Miles Street Community Park will close at 7 p.m., effective immediately, for the remainder of the season. Borough council decided to make the change due to recent vandalism. All borough parks will close for the winter on October 29.

Tax Rebates

The Old Forge Community Action Committee expects demand for this year’s borough real estate tax rebates to help the program surpass $200,000 in rebates issued since 2005.

Applications will be accepted through October 30.

The program will offer Old Forge Borough real estate tax rebates of up to $100 to owner-occupants of Old Forge homes. The homeowner-occupants must be 55 years old or older to qualify.

OFCAC’s 2008 rebate program issued more than $60,000 in rebates to more than 600 Old Forge owner-occupants. The program processed more than $40,000 in 2007 and 2006 and $10,000 in rebates in its first year, 2005. Residents can mail copies of their driver’s license, blue “2009 Old Forge Boro” tax bill, and phone number to the committee at PO Box 274, Taylor 18517.

The rebates will take four to six weeks to process. Applications received after October 30 will not be accepted.

Rec Board Meeting

Old Forge Borough Recreation Board will meet November 4 at 7 p.m. at the Old Forge Community Park.
