Holiday jewelry, desserts today at Trinity Episcopal

The Trinity’s 2nd Annual Holiday Jewelry and Desserts Kick-off Event, featuring designs by local artists, will conclude today at Trinity Episcopal Church, 220 Montgomery Avenue, West Pittston.

An elegant bake sale is also slated with hundreds of holiday dessert items packaged to go. The event opens 10:00 a.m. both days and closes at 4:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.

The church room will feature a large variety of jewelry gift items at reasonable prices for an early start to the holiday shopping season. Trinity’s hospitality team will be on hand to provide complimentary hot chocolate for all visitors.

Raffles will afford visitors the opportunity to win some great gift items. The Trinity chefs are heating up their ovens to offer an array of baked goods packaged for gift giving or for placement on the family table at the holidays.

The public is invited to browse through the jewelry treasures, enjoy tables full of homemade desserts and have a hot chocolate as a warm up for the upcoming holidays.

Women’s Club

The West Pittston Women’s Club will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday, November 17 at 1:30 p.m. at the West Pittston Methodist Church. The speaker will be Peggy Burke, director of the Pittston Food Bank and the Free Health Clinic. Members are asked to bring cans of food to this meeting to donate to the food pantry.

Reservations will be taken at this meeting for the annual Christmas luncheon at Fox Hill C.C. on Tuesday, December 15 at12:30 p.m. Call Joan at 654-7691 or Alberta at 655-8613 for reservations. Friends are welcome. Chairwoman - Mary Smith, Committee - Loretta Semenza, Joan Linskey, Beverly Williams, and Marion Wilson.

CEO Presentation

Representatives for CEO will be on hand to make a presentation on weatherizing homes and the grants and programs available to assist homeowners to do make such improvements on Tuesday, November 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the First United Presbyterian Church Sunday School Auditorium, 115 Exeter Avenue. The program is open to the public.

Rams Nominations

The Board of the West Pittston Rams Junior Football Association is accepting nominations for the Treasurer, Vice President of Cheerleading, as well as positions for Fundraising, Concession Stand and Cheerleading Competition Chair.

Nominations in the form of Letter of Intent will be accepted at the November 18 board meeting at 7:00 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, West Pittston, or by email a letter of intent to president@westpittstonrams.com.

Elections will be held in mid-December for the 2010 season.

Rams Banquet

The West Pittston Rams Junior Football and Cheerleading Association will hold their Annual Banquet to honor the cheerleaders, players, coaches and volunteers on November 21 at 6:00 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Center in Exeter.

The banquet will after the 4:30 p.m. Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Church will provide an opportunity for Rams families to give thanks among the welcoming parish community.

Seating for the banquet will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the dinner and program starting promptly at 6:00 p.m. Catering will be provided by Michael’s Restaurant, tickets are priced at $22.00 for Adult and $12.00 for Child.

Tickets may be purchased at the Trinity Episcopal Church, West Pittston, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on November 18. Cash only at time of purchase, no tickets sold at the door.

Breakfast with Santa

The Wyoming Area Kiwanis Club, along with its sponsored Key Club and Builders, cordially invite the public to their16th annual Breakfast with Santa on Sunday, December 6 at the Wyoming Area Secondary Center Cafeteria from 8:30 a.m. to Noon. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children. Infants under 2 are free of charge.

Tickets are available from any Kiwanis, Key Club or Builders Club member. Tickets can be reserved by calling 603-0488 or be prepaid by sending a check to Wyoming Area Kiwanis, PO Box 4052, Wyoming, PA 18644. Pre-ordered tickets will be available at the door.

This year’s breakfast includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, coffee, juice, hot chocolate and milk. Santa Claus will be presented in a comfortable, child non-threatening environment, so your children can truly enjoy their visit with good old Saint Nick. A Christmas Wonderland setting will greet the children and the adults, children will have to opportunity to make their own Christmas craft ornament and enjoy story telling and Christmas music sung by the K family members.

Trip to Spain

Wyoming Area Spanish teacher Christine Marianacci and History teacher Barbara Bullions are planning a trip to Spain for July 2010. The tour will visit Madrid, Seville, Cordoba, Costa del Sol, Granada, Valencia, and Barcelona. There will also be a full day excursion across the Strait of Gibraltar to Morocco.

This will be Mrs. Bullions’s fourth trip with EF Educational Tours. Previous students have traveled to England, Paris, and Italy. Anyone interested in this tour should attend an informational meeting at Wyoming Area High School on Thursday, November 12th at 7:30 pm. or call 655-2836 x 2180.

Christmas Lights

Bobby Trusavage, of Boy Scout Troop #302, is holding a fundraiser for his Eagle Scout project. Money is being raised to purchase new energy efficient L.E.D. Christmas lights for West Pittston. The old lights will be properly recycled to make way for the new ones.

Library Fundraiser

The West Pittston Library’s State funding has been cut by 20-percent. The Friends of the West Pittston Library are currently working on several fundraisers to help the library.

One such fundraiser is a raffle. Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. There are certificates available for a Christmas tree and wreath from Ciampi’s Greenhouse, $25.00from Valenti’s Restaurant, $20.00 from Gerrity’s Supermarket, $25.00 from TJ Maxx and a Mary Kay Basket. The drawing will be held on November 23. Please support the Library raffle.

The Library will participate in the Bon Ton Community Day being held on November 14.Booklets are available for $5.00 at the Library. The $5.00 stays with the library and you receive a $10.00 coupon plus several 20% coupons that can be used on November 14 at any Bon Ton store.

Class of 1979

The Wyoming Area Class of 1979 will conduct their 30th Class Reunion on Friday, November 27 from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at Rodano’s on the Square, Wilkes-Barre. The cost is $35.00/person.

Recycling Note

Drop-off collection for recycling is every Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Public Works Facility, 505 Delaware Ave. Curbside recycling days are the first and third Thursdays. Recycling materials consist of commingled which includes glass, plastic and jars. Place these items together in recycling container. Please place newspapers in brown paper bags.
