Lions Club plans bucket drop next Sunday in boro

The Dupont Lions will hold their bucket coin drop for their annual White Cane Drive at the intersections of Main and Bear Creek Rd. by the “Hub One” from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Sunday, October 18. Monies collected will be used to support local programs and services for people who are blind and visually impaired. Please be generous.

The Lions Club will meet on Monday, October 26 at the VFW Post Home. As always, new members are welcome.

Used glasses can be drop off at the VFW during the meeting or at the Lions Drop-Off Container located in front of the Dupont Municipal building.

The Club will again have safety stations set up for all the local ghosts and goblins that will be out on Halloween. Location of the safety stations will be published at a later date.

Note of Thanks

Borough Manager Patty McDonald, Council Members Stan Knick and Ed Kowalczyk thank the residents, organizations and businesses for all their support to raise funds for MDA. Over the past weeks there had been numerous fundraising events, to include, guest bartending at local businesses, a Krispy Kreme Donut Sales, donation jars placed throughout the municipality, lottery raffles and private contributions. Over twelve hundred $1,200 and still counting was raised through the generosity of the community.

The last raffle winner of the Lottery Basket was David Salvatore.

Polish Club

The Polish American Citizens Club of Elm Street will hold the regular monthly meeting today beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the club home. PCACC Active members are encouraged to attend; refreshments will be served after the meeting.

Knick Rally

Come out on Sunday, October 18 and meet the candidate Bruce Knick running for Pittston Area School Director. The Breakfast Buffet will be held from 8:30 to 11:30am at the VFW Post Home on Main Street, Dupont. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by calling Bruce at 430-7577.

Women’s Society

The Women’s Society Members of Sacred Heat of Jesus Church installation of officers will take place today at the 10:30 a.m. Mass. The officers for 2009/2010 are: Coordinators: Diane Skrzysowski and Geraldine Coolbaugh, Secretary: Mary Wascavich and Treasurer: Loretta Justick.

Food Drives

Holy Mother of Sorrows PNCC and Sacred Heart of Jesus Church have joined efforts to feed the hungry. Each parish will be holding a Thanksgiving Food Drive for the Food Cupboard in Pittston the first two full weekends of November 7th- 8th and 14th- 15th . Containers will be placed in the back of the church vestibule for donations.

The food will be distributed for those in need in time for Thanksgiving.

Senior Bingo

The Sacred Heart of Jesus Outreach Committee extends an invitation to senior citizens 60 and over to a Senior Bingo which will be held on Sunday, October 25 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the parish hall. There is no charge for the bingo, token prizes will be awarded and refreshments will be served.

Young Scholar

Peter Kulick of Suscon and Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish will represent Wyoming Area Catholic in the Young Scholars Program to be held at Scranton Prep High School in Scranton on Saturday, November 7. The competition covers areas of grammar, spelling, math, history, literature, science and current events. Mrs. Elizabeth Kaminski of Dupont is the coach for the Young Scholars Program at Wyoming Area Catholic.

Choir Practice

Sacred Heart of Jesus Choir will practice on Thursday October 15 at 6:30 in the choir loft. New members are always welcome.

Cemetery Services

Cemetery Services will be held on Sunday, November 1 at Sacred Heart of Jesus and Holy Mother of Sorrows as follows: Sacred Heart will hold prayer services at the church beginning at 1:00 p.m. and blessings at the cemetery at 1:45 p.m. Holy Mother of Sorrows will hold services at the parish cemetery beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Council Meeting

The Dupont Borough Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the municipal building. The agenda will include the first reading of the proposed 2010 budget; approval of the 2008 audit by council; discussion of the Mohegan Sun grant application; updates on current project to include Lidy Creek, Commerce Rd and Local Street paving developments.

VFW Meeting

The VFW Post 4909 will hold their next meeting on Monday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the post home. Many items of importance will be discussed and reports given. The Home Association meeting will follow. Food and refreshments will follow after both meetings.

Christmas Party

The Annual Christmas Party sponsored by Dupont Borough will take place on Saturday, Dec. 19 at the VFW Post 4909 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Reservations are now being accepted. Please contact the municipal office at 655-6216 to make your reservation and for additional information.

Halloween Party

The annual Halloween Party sponsored by Dupont Borough will be held on Friday, Oct. 30 from 6 to 8 at the pavilion in the park. There will be refreshments served and goodie bags given to the ghost and goblins.

Office Closed

Dupont Borough Public Works Dept. will be closed in observance of Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 12. The municipal office will be opened until noon.
