Masonic Lodge pancake & sausage breakfast today

Valley Masonic Lodge, 318 Linden Street, will hold its Semi Annual Pancake & Sausage Breakfast today from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This is a fundraiser to pay for the repaired roof. Everyone is welcome, donations are: adults, $7.00, children under 12, $3.50, or you may purchase a ticket at the door.

Drama Club Parents

The Wyoming Area Drama Club Parents will be meeting this Wednesday, October 7 at 7:00 p.m. at the Secondary Center.

Plans will be finalized for the Drama Club’s ’Night of Fright’ Halloween production to be held on Saturday, October 24. All parents of Drama Club members are encouraged to attend.

Softball Parents

The Wyoming Area Softball Parents will be holding their first meeting for the upcoming season on Wednesday, October 14 at 7:00 p.m. at Sabatini’s Pizza in Exeter. All parents of softball players in grades 7 through 12 are encouraged to attend. Planning for this season’s events will take place. For any questions, call Drew at 655-8756.

Parents Night

The Wyoming Area Senior Football Players and Senior Marching Band Members will be honoring their parents prior to the home game on Friday, October 23. Parents are asked to report to the Football Spirit Stand promptly at 6:00 p.m. The ceremony will begin at approximately 6:15 p.m. Please call Mary Ann Murphy with any questions at 654-3627. Class of 1979

The Wyoming Area Class of 1979 will conduct their 30th Class Reunion on Friday, November 27 from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at Rodano’s on the Square, Wilkes-Barre. The cost is $35.00/person.

Class of 1969

Wyoming Area Class of 1969 will hold their 40th reunion on Saturday, November 28 at Fox Hill Country Club. Cocktails at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7:30 p.m. Cost is $40.00 per person. Dancing to music of The Cadillacs.

Book Club

The West Pittston Library Book Club meets the first Tuesday of every month at 6:45 p.m. and welcomes new members at any time.

Copies of selected books will be available for check out at the circulation desk three weeks before each meeting. The schedule is as follows: Tuesday, November 3 - The Year of Living Biblically by A.J. Jacobs. Tuesday, January 5 - One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. There will be no meeting in December.

Council Reminder

Borough Council meetings are 6:30 p.m. not 7:00 p.m

Call 9-1-1

Police Chief Porfirio reminds residents to call 911 when the need arises for a police officer. Please do not call the borough building. The officers are usually patrolling the streets or out of the building on police calls.

Leaf Pickup

Leaf pickup will begin on Monday, October 12. Residents are urged to obey the No Parking signs. Warnings will be issued the week of October 12 - October 16. Following that time period, tickets will be issued to violators.

Yard waste pickup is on Monday and Tuesday of the week. Pickup on Mondays will take place from Montgomery Avenue to Erie St. and Tuesdays from Montgomery Avenue to Susquehanna Avenue.

Yard waste includes shrubbery or grass clippings and tree limbs not exceeding 3’ length of 1/2 diameter. Yard waste should be placed in open containers weighting less than 30 lbs.

Curbside Recycling for West Pittston Borough is the first and third Thursday of each month.

Recyclables should be placed on the curb by 6:00 a.m. Drop off collection will be held each Saturday at 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Public Works Facility, 505 Delaware Avenue.

Residents can drop off commingled, newspapers and corrugated cardboard every Saturday.

School Taxes

West Pittston Tax Collector George L. Miller would like to inform residents the 2009 School Taxes have been mailed and are due at rebate until October 1, 2009.

Office Hours are Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m. until noon.

Property owners having escrow accounts must forward their bills to their lending institution for payments. If paying by mail, please enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope to receive a receipt. If you would like an appointment, please call 655-3801 or 655-7782 ext. 232.

The 2009 County and Borough Tax Face Period has ended. The penalty value will be in effect until December 15, 2009.
