The Wyoming United Methodist Church, Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, will hold a Pig Roast Picnic on Saturday, August 15, serving drive-thru take-outs or eat-in (picnic style) from 4-7 p.m. The pig is roasted on site.

Wyoming Ambulance Association recently ended the second month of its community fund drive. The association thanks all who are enrolled. Anyone who has not donated will receive a reminder within the month asking to submit your subscription. Without your support the association cannot continue to provide services to the community because of the rising cost of vehicle maintenance, equipment repairs and insurance. The Wyoming Area Education Association of Retirees (WAEA-R) will hold its sixth annual breakfast on Monday, August 31 at the Avenue Diner, Wyoming at 9 a.m. This year ordering will be from a special menu.
Reservations are required and are due by August 26. Please call the WA Credit Union at 693-1339 to let us know. This year the committee is collecting $1 membership dues which will count as your reservation and can be withdrawn from your account.
Those who are unable to attend or do not belong to the CU can send a check for the dues made out to WAEA-R to WAFCU, 800 Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, PA 18644.
The current officers are President Phil Russo, Vice-President Steve Harmanos, Treasurer Gloria Lawler and Secretary Sandy Touw.
All Aboard! The Greater Pittston Charity Steam Ride is planning a railroad excursion. The Newly restored Reading & Northern Railroad No. 425 Baldwin Light Pacific Steam Locomotive will depart the Duryea Mr. Z’s on Sunday, September 9 at 9 a.m. to Jim Thorpe. Passenger will spend 3 � hours in Jim Thorpe before making the return trip to Duryea.
The cost of the trip is $75 per person with proceeds benefiting the Pittston Memorial Library, Greater Pittston YMCA and the Care and Concern Free Health Clinic.

The American Legion Post 904, West Wyoming met recently at the West Wyoming Hose Co. No. 1 meeting room with Commander Yarosavich presiding. Nominations and election of officers for the years2009-2010 were held.
The newly elected officers were and installed by the past commander, Frank Perfinski and they are: Commander Richard Yarosavich Sr. 1st Vice Commander, Matthew Kearns, 2nd Vice Commander, Joseph Granteed, Chaplin, Paul Shaffer, Sgt. At Arms, Ronald Semanski, Historian, Daniel Grescavage, Home Association President, George C. Yurek, Sr., Home Association Vice President, Robert Jones, Home Association Treasure, Leonard Karrot.
Membership drive for new members is in progress for the year 2009-2010. Servicemen and women from World War 2, Korea, Vietnam, Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, the Gulf, Iraq and Afghanistan are eligible. For more information, call Membership Chairman, Frank Perfinski at 693-3202.
The Post meets the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m., in the West Wyoming Hose Co No. 1 meeting Hall. The next meeting of the Post will be September 10 at 6:30 p.m.
All members are urged to attend as important business will be discussed.
On Saturday, October 10, from 2-10 p.m. a “1st Annual Wyoming Octoberfest” is scheduled. Plans are underway including entertainment, and a variety of contests for the community to take part in. Interested vendors/sponsors should contact John Bolin at 693-1944 after 5 p.m.
A newly formed Wyoming “Junior” Recreation Board is welcoming new members who must be at least 14 years of age. If you are interested, please contact Jacki Kasa at 693-0230.
The Wyoming Area Class of 1989 will have its 20 year reunion, Saturday, August 22 from 2-9 p.m. at the Checkerboard Inn, Shavertown. Invitations have gone out and the reunion committee is asking for returns to be sent back no later than August 15.

Shirley Malloy dedicated more than 30 years working to improve West Wyoming’s recreational facilities for children through her efforts on the Recreation Board. On September 26, the Shirley Malloy Memorial Golf Tournament will continue her efforts and raise funds to enable the West Wyoming Recreation Board to purchase new playground equipment for area children.
The golf outing will take place at Applewood golf course followed by a Clambake at West Wyoming Hose Company #1. The format is Captain and two mates with a cost of $75 per golfer, to attend the clambake only, the cost is $25. Every golfer will receive a gift bag and the outing will feature great prizes including a chance to win a trip and a $10,000 cash prize.

The WAFPA’s annual Meet the Warriors is August 16 beginning with a Mass at St. Anthony’s at 10:30 a.m. and followed by breakfast at the Wyoming Area Cafeteria. This is the perfect time for parents to meet the coaching staff, WAFPA board members, School Board Members, and most importantly, the players.
Parents will be called and asked to donate various items. The deadline for the personal program ads is getting close. Parents who want to place an ad for their sons or daughters should do so as soon as possible. Businesses that would like to place an ad can contact Nick Perugini.

The parishioners of St. Michael The Archangel Byzantine Catholic Church Pittston invite everyone in Wyoming to the 13th annual Flea Market and ziti dinner today from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the church hall 205 North Main Street Pittston. Ethnic foods will also be available at the food bar as well as soft drinks. The Reverend G. Scott Boghossian is pastor.
Residents who have not purchased their 2nd half garbage stickers will now have to pay a $25 late fee upon the cost of the sticker. $90 residents and $85 senior citizens.
