HUGHESTOWN
Pittston City Treasurer, Kathy Cunard, announced that the 2010 Hughestown refuse/trash stickers will be available as of December 30, for residents who wish to use the Pittston city service. They may be purchased in the City Treasurer’s Office, 35 Broad Street, Pittston, or can be obtained by mail for prices listed below plus $2.75 postage and handling.
Last year’s pink stickers will no longer be valid as of January 11, 2010.
There are two options available. Prices are as follows and both are considered the yearly fee: 66 stickers for the year at $130.00 or 138 stickers for the year $170.00. If you run out of stickers after you have paid the annual fee, you may purchase extra stickers in packs of twelve for a cost of $24.00.
Hughestown’s budget has been read for the second time and adopted with no new taxes. A copy of the budget is available at the borough building.
The tax anticipation loan has been approved with PNC Bank. All money from last year’s loan has been paid.
The hose company annual Breakfast with Santa was deemed a success. Canned goods were also picked up with Santa along with many gifts for the youngsters.
New signs are ready for the Robert Yaple Memorial Park, two on Cemetery Street and two at the bottom of Center and Parsonage streets. A new sign will also be placed on Cemetery Street, regarding no outlet on that street.
Appointed for 30 days in Hughestown Police Department, are Dan Evancho and Ed Sulima.
Councilman Vito Gatto was given thanks for this term on council by Mayor Paul Hindmarsh and Council members. Gatto said it was an experience.
The Sewer maintenance fee will be raised to $50 a year to provide funding for future problems.
This will also help the borough when it is time for new sewers. Plans are in the making for this project.
A field representative was in the borough with councilpersons Ed Strubeck and Marie Griglock assisting.
Re-organization meeting of Hughestown Borough Council will be held January 4 at 7 p.m. in the borough building. Members will be sworn in by Magistrate Fred Pierantoni.
Sworn in will be Mayor Paul Hindmarsh, Council Marie Griglock, Robert Gable, Paul Murphy, Barbara Gatto, Tax Collector John Poli, Auditor Ann Merlino.
