Holy Mother of Sorrows PNCC and Sacred Heart of Jesus Church have joined efforts to help feed those in need for the holidays. Each parish will be holding a Thanksgiving Food Drive for the Food Pantry in Pittston the first two full weekends in November starting on the this weekend and next, Nov. 14, 15.
Containers will be placed in the back of the each church’s vestibule which will be open only during church services. If you are not able to bring your donations to church you can drop off your contribution anytime on the back porch of the parish rectory of Sacred Heart and Holy Mother of Sorrows.
Items requested by the Food Pantry are: popular cereals, cans of carrots, peas, green beans, potatoes and corn; cans of chicken noodle, vegetable, beef noodle, pea and potato soups; boxes of Jell-o, cake mixes, puddings and containers of icing. Any donation will be greatly appreciated.
The Polish American Citizens Club will hold their regular monthly meeting at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 16 at the club home. PACC active members are encouraged to attend, refreshments will be served after the meeting.
Due to the elections on November 3 the Ladies Auxiliary of the Przybytek-Kundlas VFW Post 4909 will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday, November 10 at 7:00 p.m. at the post home. Hostesses will be Mary Vargo and Maureen Knick.
On Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, the veterans will meet 10 a.m. at the VFW for coffee and donuts and to finalize the program that will be held at 11 a.m. at the Dupont Borough Memorial Lawn. Food and refreshments will be served following the ceremony at the VFW.
The Eco-Action Club meets every Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. in the borough building. On the first and second Tuesday, the club meets for an hour. On the third and fourth Tuesday the club meeting will last to up to two hours. This longer time frame allows members to work on activities.
Currently the Eco-Action Club is studying carbon footprints and have designed a display on how to reduce our carbon footprint that effect our planet. The exhibit is in the municipal building foyer and can be viewed during regular business office hours.

Applications for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) are available at the municipal office during regular business hours. For more information about this program you can call the Luzerne County Assistance office at 826-2041 or visit the state website at: www.dpw.state.pa.us/servicesprograms/liheap for guidelines and restrictions of the program.
Bill Elko reminds residents that the face value for 2009 school taxes will end on Monday, November 23. All 2009 tax books will close this year on Tuesday, December 15. For residents who take advantage of the installment plan, the 3rd and final installment is due by Tuesday, December 15. Any taxes not paid by the above date will be turned into the Tax Claim Bureau of Luzerne County.
The Dupont Lions will meet on Monday, November 9 at 6:30 p.m.All members are urged to attend. Many issues will be discussed on the upcoming holiday events.
The Dupont Lions are currently selling lottery tickets for their annual Christmas Lighting project. On Sunday, November 15 the Dupont Lions will “Light up your Christmas” when members begin to place the new snowflake lights in town. The snowflakes made the debut last year thanks to the generosity of the community.
The organization will be adding a few more snowflakes this year. If your organization is interested in purchasing a snowflake contact Lions: Tony Draus, Dan Lello, Chris Kal or Ken Shambe.
Dupont Borough is now accepting reservations for the annual Children’s Christmas party to be held on Saturday, December 19 at the VFW Post 4909 from 1:00 to 3:00. Please call the municipal office at 655-6216 with the child’s name, age and address and number of people attending. Deadline for reservations: Monday, November 30.
Dupont Borough Council will meet in executive session on Tuesday, November 10 at 6:30 p.m. prior to the Council Meeting at 7:00 p.m. to discuss personnel and legal matters.
The Senior Citizen Outreach Committee would like to thank everyone who supported their recent fundraiser-bake sale and 50/50 raffle. The bake sale will offset the cost of mailing to the senior homebound and nursing guest. Raffle winners were: Theme Basket: Leonarda Skrzysowski and 50/50 L. Hoffman.
