West Pittston Library fundraiser Monday, Tuesday

Do some early holiday shopping at Barnes & Noble and part of the proceeds will go to the West Pittston Library.

Stop by the West Pittston Library to pick up a Barnes & Noble Book Fair voucher. You can also print off a voucher online at www.wplibrary.org. Shop at Barnes & Noble (or the Starbucks inside) tomorrow, Monday, November 9 or Tuesday, November 10 and present the voucher at the time of sale.

If you forget the voucher, that’s not a problem. Just let the cashier know that you are there to support the West Pittston Library. Library board members, staff and friends will be at the Arena Hub Barnes & Noble wrapping your gifts; however, thevoucher will work at any Barnes & Noble location around the country.

The West Pittston Library’s State funding has been cut by 20-percent. The Friends of the West Pittston Library are currently working on several fundraisers to help the library.

One such fundraiser is a raffle. Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. There are certificates available for a Christmas tree and wreath from Ciampi’s Greenhouse, $25.00from Valenti’s Restaurant, $20.00 from Gerrity’s Supermarket, $25.00 from TJ Maxx and a Mary Kay Basket. The drawing will be held on November 23. Please support the Library raffle.

The Library will participate in the Bon Ton Community Day being held on November 14.Booklets are available for $5.00 at the Library. The $5.00 stays with the library and you receive a $10.00 coupon plus several 20% coupons that can be used on November 14 at any Bon Ton store.

Softball Parents

The Wyoming Area Softball Parents will hold a meeting on Wednesday, November 11, at 7:00 p.m. at Sabatini’s Pizza in Exeter. All parents of softball players in grades 7 through 12 are encouraged to attend. Planning for this upcoming season’s events will take place. For any questions, call Drew at 655-8756.

Eagle Scout Project

Bobby Trusavage, of Boy Scout Troop #302, is holding a fundraiser for his Eagle Scout project. Money is being raised to purchase new energy efficient LED Christmas lights for West Pittston. The old lights will be properly recycled to make way for the new ones.

Contributions can be sent to Bobby Trusavage, 706 Susquehanna Avenue, West Pittston. Please make checks payable to: Boy Scout Troop #302. Note: on memo write “Christmas Lights.” All donations are greatly appreciated.

Craft, Gift Sale

The First United Presbyterian Church of West Pittston, 115 Exeter Ave., West Pittston, will be holding their 2nd Annual Craft and Gift Fair next Saturday, November 14 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

This multi-level event will be host to dozens of vendors, selling a large variety of goods, including jewelry, art glass, crocheted baby items, homemade purses and lotions, and well name brands such as Lia Sophia, and Mary Kay.

All are invited to enjoy the wonderful crafts presented by local vendors for your holiday purchasing pleasure.

Rams Banquet

On November 21, the West Pittston Rams Junior Football and Cheerleading Association will hold their Annual Banquet to honor the cheerleaders, players, coaches and volunteers, at St. Anthony’s Center in Exeter.

The banquet will be preceded by4:30 p.m. Mass at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church will providean opportunity for Rams families to give thanks among the welcoming parish community.

Seating for the banquet will begin at 5:30pm, with the dinner and program starting promptly at 6pm. Catering provided by Michael’s Restaurant with tickets priced at $22.00 for adult and $12.00 for child.

Tickets may be purchased at the Trinity Episcopal Church, West Pittston, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 11. Cash only at time of purchase, no tickets sold at the door.

Holiday Kickoff

The Trinity’s 2nd Annual Holiday Jewelry and Desserts Kick-off Event, featuring designs by local artists, is set for next weekend, November 14 and 15 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 220 Montgomery Avenue, West Pittston.

An Elegant Bake Sale is also slated with hundreds of holiday dessert items packaged to go.

The event opens 10:00 a.m. both days and closes at 4:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.

The church room will feature a large variety of jewelry gift items at reasonable prices for an early start to the holiday shopping season. Trinity’s hospitality team will be on hand to provide complimentary hot chocolate for all visitors.

Raffles will afford visitors the opportunity to win some great gift items.

The Trinity chefs are heating up their ovens to offer an array of baked goods packaged for gift giving or for placement on the family table at the holidays.

The public is invited to browse through the jewelry treasures, enjoy tables full of homemade desserts and have a hot chocolate as a warm up for the upcoming holidays.

Class of 1979

The Wyoming Area Class of 1979 will conduct their 30th Class Reunion on Friday, November 27 from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at Rodano’s on the Square, Wilkes-Barre. The cost is $35.00/person.

Wyoming Area Class of 1969 will hold their 40th reunion on Saturday, November 28 at Fox Hill Country Club.

Library Book Club

The West Pittston Library Book Club meets the first Tuesday of every month at 6:45 p.m. and welcomes new members at any time.

Copies of selected books will be available for check out at the circulation desk three weeks before each meeting. The schedule is as follows: Tuesday, January 5 - One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. There will be no meeting in December.

Yard Waste

This is the last week for yard waste pick up in West Pittston Borough. The Public Works Department will go through the town and pick up yard waste one last time for the season.

Drop-off collection for recycling is every Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Public Works Facility, 505 Delaware Ave. Curbside recycling days are the first and third Thursdays. Recycling materials consist of commingled which includes glass, plastic and jars. Place these items together in recycling container. Please place newspapers in brown paper bags.

All businesses are mandated to recycling.

Leaves are to be raked to the curb. They will be collected with the vacuum leaf loader. Please obey the No Parking Signs for leaf pick up.
