Andrew "Andy" F. Selensky, Jr., 78, of West Wyoming, died October 17, 2009, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. His wife is the former Rosemarie Repak. They celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on April 19, 2009.
Born on December 21, 1930, in Swoyersville, he was a son of the late Andrew F. Sr. and Victoria Brutko Selensky. He was raised in Swoyersville and attended Swoyersville schools. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Laborers’ Tri County Union, Scranton. In his earlier years, he was employed by the former United Pants Factory, Swoyersville; the former Keystone Garment Company, Edwardsville, and the Berwick Nuclear Power Plant. He was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Swoyersville. He often volunteered his time as an usher at Holy Trinity Church, Swoyersville. He was a social member of the American Legion, and Lawrence Post 644, Swoyersville, where he helped his life-long friend, Richard Gavlick, prepare and cater meals for many different occasions throughout the years. He was a member of the Emanon Country Club, Falls. He also held membership at the Odyssey Fitness Center, Wilkes-Barre. He was a former member of the Swoyersville Lions Club and was the recipient of the "Lion of the Year" award for 2003-2004, in recognition of his outstanding service, loyalty and devotion to the Lions Club. He was an accomplished trumpet player and was a member of the Musician’s Union. He volunteered his time every Memorial Day to play Taps in memory of all veterans.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Master Sergeant Richard J. Selensky.
He is also survived by his sisters, Mrs. Anthony Mandycz (Eleanor), Luzerne; Mrs. Robert Rish (Gerry), Swoyersville; Mrs. Robert Colonda (Anne Mae), Holidaysburg; numerous nieces; nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and many dear friends.
Funeral services were Oct. 21 from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Forty Fort, followed by an Office of Christian Burial with Divine Liturgy in St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Swoyersville. Interment at the convenience of the family.
