Andrew J. Kurilla

Andrew J. Kurilla, 76, of Exeter, died November 2, 2009, at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Plains Township.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late John and Julia Hetro Kurilla. He and his wife, the former Rita Anne Isopi, celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on October 20, 2009. He served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1950 and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1959. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Association and the Swoyersville American Legion Post 644. In 1966, he owned and operated the A & R Pub in Plains. He had also worked at American Chain & Cable in Wilkes-Barre.

Preceding him in death were his brothers, John Kurilla Jr. and Joseph, and a sister, Mary Nardone.

Also surviving are a daughter, Lynda Kurilla Mantush, Exeter, and sons Andrew Kurilla Jr., Exeter, and Frank and his wife, Colleen, Plains. Also brothers Michael and his wife, Kathy Kurilla, Swoyersville, and Francis, New Jersey; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral was Nov. 5 from the Gubbiotti Funeral Home, Exeter, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, West Wyoming . Interment Italian Independent Cemetery, West Wyoming.
