Emery P. Guffrovich, 89, of Nanticoke, died November 11, 2009, at Birchwood Nursing Home, Nanticoke.
He was born in Glen Lyon and was a son of the late Paul and Catherine Pish Guffrovich. He was a graduate of Newport High School and was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Nanticoke. He was an Army Veteran of World War II, serving in France in the European Theater, where he was the recipient of three Bronze Star Victory Medals. He worked several years in the mines for Susquehanna Coal Co. and later retired from Charmin Industries, Tunkhannock.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Tozia Radziak; sons, Emory, Pittston, and Paul, Arizona; daughters, Diane Witmire, Shickshinny, Mary Ann Bowersox, Arizona, and Theresa Rule, Tunkhannock; granddaughters Jody Zelinski, Tera, Brittny and Tiffany Rule; grandson Aaron Guffrovich; and great-granddaughters Skylar and Devan Zelinski.
A private funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday from the Grontkowski Funeral Home P.C., 51 W. Green St., Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Nanticoke. Interment Holy Trinity Cemetery. Calling hours are from 8: 30 a.m. until time of service.
