Howard T. Andreoni, 91, of Plains Township, died November 8, 2009, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in Old Forge, he was a son of the late Noah and Louise Taroli Andreoni, and was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School, Class of 1935. He was a World War II, Korean and Vietnam Army Air Force veteran, serving 32 years and attained the rank of First Lieutenant. He served with the 468 Bomb Group No. 793 Squadron. He survived two crash landings and received the Distinguished Service Cross, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, Vietnam Service Medal, Airmen Medal for Heroism; and was credited with 32 missions and 17 Hump Missions Flown in the China/Burma campaign. After serving our country, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Plains American Legion Joseph E. Conlon, Post No. 558 and the Dupont Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No. 4909.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Nello and Enzo Andreoni; sisters, Lillian Andreoni, Mary Dini and Linda Papi.
Surviving are his wife, the former Thelma Carnevali Leandri, Plains; daughters, Colleen Daze and husband John, Yardley; Kathleen Lariviere and her husband, Paul, Manchester, ME; grandson, Jeffrey Lariviere and wife, Nancy, Westville, MA; stepdaughter, Rhonda Melvin, West Pittston; stepgrandchildren, Summer Bellas and her husband, Christopher, and Josh Melvin; step great-grandchildren, Mia and Andie Bellas, West Pittston; nephews and nieces.
Military funeral was held Nov. 11 from the Corcoran Funeral Home, Plains, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Ss. Peter & Paul Church, Plains. Interment Italian Independent Cemetery, West Wyoming.
