James F. O’Malley, Sr.

James F. O’Malley Sr., 75, of Hughestown, died November 23, 2009, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in West Avoca on June 10, 1934, he was a son of the late Edward and Mary Smith O’Malley. He was a graduate of St. John the Evangelist High School, Pittston. He was a medic in the Army Reserves in his earlier years. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston, and its Holy Name Society; a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus, JFK Council No. 372, Pittston; and a member of the Graphic Communications International Union. He was employed in the newspaper business as a stereotyper, having worked for The International Color Printing Company, also having done printing work for The Sunday Dispatch, The Sunday Independent, The Scranton Times and The Catholic Light.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph O’Malley; and a sister, Mary McHale.

Surviving is his wife of 54 years, Helyne Hughes O’Malley; children Thomas O’Malley and his wife, Cynthia, Moosic; James O’Malley Jr. and his wife, Mary Pat, Pittston Township; Maureen and her husband, Robert Sutkowski, Pittston Township; and Joseph O’Malley and his wife, Kelly, Jenkins Township; grandchildren Lena O’Malley; Rob, Ryan, and Kaylene Sutkowski; Joseph, Taryn and Brenna O’Malley; brother Edward (Ned) O’Malley, Tunkhannock; sister Jeanne Randall, Pittston; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Nov. 27 from the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, West Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston. Interment parish cemetery.
