James F. Sulima, 60, of Pittston, died November 8, 2009, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born on November 28, 1948, in Pittston, he was a son of the late Edward Walter Sulima and Marie Douglas Sulima Neff Gallagher. He was a member of St. Mary’s Assumption Church, Pittston, and was a 1967 graduate of Pittston Area High School. After graduation, he received his draft notice and entered the Army, beginning basic training at Fort Dix, N.J. In 1968, he began a 14-month tour in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division. He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts, Army Commendation Medals and a Bronze Star. He also had one of his dog tags returned to him after being lost in Vietnam for 40 years. He had retired from Tobyhanna Army Depot, where he worked as an electronics mechanic technician in the Communications Systems Directorate’s Satellite Communications Division for 32 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 477, Pittston, and the Dupont VFW Post No. 4909.
Surviving are his wife of 36 years, the former Theresa LaSorba; son Edward and daughter Tara, at home; brothers, Walter "Buzzy" Sulima, Avoca; Joseph Sulima, Las Vegas, Nev.; and Jerry Sulima, Jenkins Township; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; many nieces and nephews.
Military funeral services were held Nov. 13 from the Gubbiotti Funeral Home, Exeter, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Assumption Church, Pittston. Interment Memorial Shrine Cemetery, Carverton.
Memorial contributions may be made at the funeral home for the family.
