James J. Giamas

James J. Giamas, 80, of Laflin, died November 2, 2009, in the Inpatient Unit of Hospice Community Care, Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.

Born Feb. 13, 1929, in Brooklyn, NY, he was a son of the late Zafirios and Angela Coppolla Giamas. He graduated from Brooklyn’s John Jay High School, Brooklyn College, with honors, and obtained a master’s degree in Business Administration from New York University. He was a retired Captain with the U.S. Army Reserves. He was employed by Shell Oil Co., W.R. Grace, Pfizer and American Cyanamid Co., all of New York City, as a sales and marketing analyst. Upon retirement he moved to Laflin. He was a member of the Oakland (NJ) Knights of Columbus No. 5846 and a Eucharistic Minister for Our Lady of Perpetual Help RC Church, Oakland, NJ. He was a member of St. Maria Goretti Church, Young at Heart project head, Pittston Senior Citizens, Senior Care of Plains and Funeral Rosary Group of St. Maria Goretti Church.

He was preceded in death by a nephew, Stephen Giamas.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, the former Mary Blatz; brother, Anthony Giamas, and wife, Anita, Old Tappan, NJ; sister, Mary Ellen, and husband, Joseph LaRubbio, Hamilton, NJ; uncle, Frank Coppolla, and his wife, Josephine, Long Island, NY; aunt, Millie Nardo, Binghamton, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Nov. 7 from the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, West Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Maria Goretti Church, Laflin. Interment St. John the Evangelist Cemetery, Pittston.
