Joseph Sirochman, a resident at the Partridge Tippett Nursing Home of Wesley Village in Pittston, died Oct. 29, 2009, after a short illness.
A son of the late Joseph Sirochman and Anna Vasil Sirochman Durisko, he was born March 7, 1924 in Clune. He attended schools in Sharon, and, like many of his generation, moved to New Jersey to seek employment. He worked a variety of jobs early in his work history, including being a taxi driver, a milkman, a card dealer at a speakeasy and a shipping clerk at Westinghouse, finally retiring from Airtron, a Morris Plains, NJ, division of Litton Industries, after 40 years, having specialized in TIG welding. He married Airtron co-worker Frances Jeckell on Sept. 13, 1952. He was a faithful Catholic all of his life. He was a member of the North Branch Land Trust, for which he volunteered; a former member of the Knights of Columbus of the St. Theresa Parish in Succasunna, N.J.; and the Swoyersville and Pittston Seniors groups.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Frances Jeckell Sirochman; a brother, John; a sister-in-law, Mary; and a niece, Mary Anne; step-family members, father, Andrew Durisko; brothers, George and John Durisko; sisters, Mary Jane Bartolin and Patricia Argenziano.
Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Martin Salowey, Plainfield, NJ, and Linda and Bernard Thoma, Dallas; step-brother, Tom, Pennsylvania; step-sisters, Alice Toth, Pennsylvania, and Gloria Becker, Florida; and many loving sisters-in-law; and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews of the Jeckell family.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday from the Mark V. Yanaitis Funeral Home, 55 Stark St., Plains Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. celebrated by Monsignor James Paisley at St. Therese’s Church, Shavertown. Following cremation, interment will take place at the convenience of the family. Friends and family may call from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday and from 9 a.m. to time of service on Monday.
