Loretta Samsel, 54, of Avoca, died January 28, 2010 at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Born in Passaic, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Sophie (Paduch) McHugh. She was a graduate of Garfield High School, Garfield, NJ and attended Sawyer School of Business, Elizabeth, NJ. She was employed for many years at Letica Corp., Pittston Twp., as a management resource planner. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Avoca.

She is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Newman and husband Shawn, a sister Susan Cwiakala and husband Daniel, Stroudsburg; two nephews, Daniel and Steven Cwiakala, aunts and cousins.

The funeral will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. from the Ruane & Regan Funeral Home, 1308 Grove Street, Avoca, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca, with the Rev. Phillip Sladicka officiating. Interment at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. Friends are asked to go directly to the church on Monday.
