Marilyn Ann Schevets, 81, of West Pittston, died October 28, 2009, at her home with her family by her side. She fought a noble and courageous battle for 4 years against pulmonary fibrosis.
Born in Pittston on June 7, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Fanesia (Forlenza) Turon. She was a graduate of Pittston High School, class of 1945, and a graduate of College Misericordia. She married the love of her life and best friend, Frank Charles Schevets in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Pittston, on Sept. 23, 1950, and they celebrated 40 years of love and marriage. Frank passed away in 1991. She was a devout Catholic and had strong faith in God and her religion. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, West Pittston. She was involved in numerous charity and volunteer programs and social organizations, some of which were the Pittston Hospital Auxiliary, The Pittston Hospital Candy Stripers and the NPW Hospital Auxiliary. In her earlier years, she was an executive secretary and then left the work force to become a wonderful mother and homemaker. After her family was raised, she became a co-owner of Sophisticated Office Systems with her husband and daughter for 16 years. She retired in 2003.
Surviving are a son, Frank Charles Schevets Jr., and his wife, Denise, Wyoming; a daughter, Marilyn (Lynne), and her husband, John P. Butler, and their daughter, Marilyn, West Pittston; sister-in-law Marguerite Schevets Dull and her husband, Dr. James Dull, West Haven, CT; cousin Mary Forlenza Stuccio, Pittston; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Pittston. Rev. Paul McDonnell, OSJ, will officiate. Those attending the Funeral Mass are asked to go directly to the church on Monday morning. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m., at the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 802 Susquehanna Ave., West Pittston. Interment Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.
