Robert J. VanLuvender, 65, of Plymouth, died March 1, 2010, in the Inpatient Care Unit of Hospice Community Care at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.
He was born in Moosic on January 1, 1945, a son of the late Robert N. and Emma Jean Mailincs VanLuvender. He attended the Grover Cleveland High School in Ridgewood, NY, and shortly thereafter he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served in Vietnam and around the world for 21 years, gaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He retired in 1983. He then attended Luzerne County Community College, where he became certified as a Master Plumber. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, Post 4909, Dupont. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, William Street, Pittston.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Frances Malcolm VanLuvender; and by a son John Dzubiak, Exeter; and by daughters Frances Banash and her husband, Paul, Tigard, OR, and Wendy Turcotte and her husband, Chris, Kingston; grandchildren Kurisu and Koji Turcotte, Anjalene, Yasmene and William Banash, Nicole and Anthony Dzubiak; brothers Richard VanLuvender and his wife, Betty, West Pittston, William VanLuvender and his wife, Lorraine, Brooklyn, NY, sisters Ann Marie Matusoff and her husband, Larry, Ridgewood, NY, Ema Jean Alvarez, Pittston; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were March 6 from the Williams-Hagen Funeral Home, Plymouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston. Interment Military Honors will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Harding.
