Samuel J. Garuba

Samuel Joseph Garuba, of Pittston, died March 3, 2010 at the Golden Living Hospice unit. He was the husband of the former Rose Rollo. The couple had been married for over 67 years.

Born in Pittston, he was a son of the late Tony and Mary Giardina Garuba. He was educated in local schools, as well as schools in New Jersey and New York. Sam served in World War II as a Motor Machinist Mate 2nd Class with the Coast Guard 3rd Naval District. He was honorably discharged Aug. 29, 1944. He later worked at Barber Ford for many years until he retired.

He is also survived by daughter Rose Mary Colarusso, Exeter; granddaughter Kim Meighan; and great-grandchildren Zachary and Nina Meighan; brother Chuck, New Jersey; sisters Caire Paolucci, New Jersey; Lena Donnelly, Warminster; and Jean Pinella, New Jersey; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and Angelo; and three sisters, Mary, Nellie and Anna Mae.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, William Street, Pittston. Those planning to attend the funeral are asked to go directly to the church. Interment will be at a later date. Friends and family are invited to call Sunday, from 3 to 5 p.m., at the Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William St., Pittston.
