Don’t throw snow on public streets

It seems we write this editorial every winter.

But it’s obvious we have to.

We haven’t had all that much snow so far this season, but still we’ve noticed many homeowners shoveling and snow-blowing the snow from their sidewalks onto the street. To those doing this we offer two words: wise up.

Throwing snow out into the street not only creates a hazard for motorists but actually makes more work for homeowners when the snow plow goes by and shoves the white stuff right back onto sidewalks.

Plus, in many municipalities throwing snow onto the street is illegal. We’re not sure we’ve ever seen this law enforced, but maybe it is time to.
