Y EXERCISE

October 11

Fit to be tried

By Laura Musto Cowher

The Greater Pittston YMCA is challenging area residents to get moving.

The organization’s Fit To Be Tried program began September 28, and runs throughout the month of October.

Fit To Be Tried offers individuals a three-month membership for $99 and allows participants a chance to register for prizes each time they exercise at the YMCA.

“It’s for them to challenge themselves to come and exercise,” said Mike Riddle, program director.

YMCAs throughout the Northeast are participating in the program.

Top prize is a 4 night/5 day trip, sponsored by AAA Travel, to Mexico or the Caribbean. Pittston YMCA member Kathy Yules won the contest last year.

Youth Membership Special

The YMCA is also offering a special membership package for youth this fall.

Purchase one youth membership for $75 and receive the following year’s membership for free. Children 13 and younger are eligible to register. Memberships include discounts for YMCA programs and sports classes, entrance into ExerPark and access to the gymnasium and pool.

Multi-family youth membership specials are available.

Fall Sports

The YMCA is offering a 2009-2010 Youth Basketball League for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. The league’s season will begin in November. Registration for the league runs October 5, 2009 to October 18, 2009. Call the YMCA for details at 655-2255.

The YMCA will also offer an Indoor Football Academy this November. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers Wide Receiver Rich Musinski will coach the academy. Call Program Director Mike Riddle for more information at 655-2255.
