GUEST COMMENTARY
By Senator Ray Musto
As a Pittston Township resident, I wish to commend The Sunday Dispatch for providing extensive coverage of the Northeast Fair.

Senator Musto
Ben Franklin would be very proud of the Pittston Township Fire Department.
He formed the first volunteer fire department in Philadelphia. Volunteerism is very much alive and well here in Pittston Township.
In 2001, the fire company purchased 16 acres of land and started to build their new fire station. The Suscon station provides fire protection to every section of the township.
In 2003, the department began a three-year probationary period required to become a state fair.
In 2006, they were officially designated a “State Fair.”
The fire company has continued to develop acreage. The fairways are all paved, the costly infrastructure of storm water, sewage lines, main water lines are completed.
The Department even converted the regular power to primary power – which could easily service a small city.
They have also completed permanent structures such as a main exhibit building, the horticulture building, the 4-H exhibit and the community pavilion.
The pavilion consists of a sound state and, of course, permanent restrooms.
This could not be possible without the assistance of our Secretary of Agriculture Dennis Wolff and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
This has all been accomplished by the Volunteers of the Pittston Township Fire Department and most importantly at no cost to the taxpayers of Pittston Township.
