Many to thank for Northeast Fair

By Senator Ray Musto

As a Pittston Township resident, I wish to commend The Sunday Dispatch for providing extensive coverage of the Northeast Fair.

Ben Franklin would be very proud of the Pittston Township Fire Department.

He formed the first volunteer fire department in Philadelphia. Volunteerism is very much alive and well here in Pittston Township.

In 2001, the fire company purchased 16 acres of land and started to build their new fire station. The Suscon station provides fire protection to every section of the township.

In 2003, the department began a three-year probationary period required to become a state fair.

In 2006, they were officially designated a “State Fair.”

The fire company has continued to develop acreage. The fairways are all paved, the costly infrastructure of storm water, sewage lines, main water lines are completed.

The Department even converted the regular power to primary power – which could easily service a small city.

They have also completed permanent structures such as a main exhibit building, the horticulture building, the 4-H exhibit and the community pavilion.

The pavilion consists of a sound state and, of course, permanent restrooms.

This could not be possible without the assistance of our Secretary of Agriculture Dennis Wolff and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

This has all been accomplished by the Volunteers of the Pittston Township Fire Department and most importantly at no cost to the taxpayers of Pittston Township.

Senator Musto - your comments are disengenous at best. The Pittston Twp Fire Dept keeps no apparatus at the Suscon station and has never responded out of it. Its also a lie to say no twp tax money went to those fairgrounds. The grants you continue to give to these depts are derived from the taxpayers. You certainly can support these fine organizations, but you should be honest in with your comments regarding their service and expenditures.

Mike, Are you crazy? Do you even live in Pittston Twp.? The Fire Department does a great job. To say that the Senator's words are disingenuous are disingenuous. Just do yourself a favor and shut your mouth!

Scott - please go back and read my comment. I said the Senator has the right to support these FINE organizations. I made no disparaging remarks about the FFs. I just stated the truth that they do not respond out of that station and that taxpayer money we indeed used to build and enhance that facility.

Mike you should check the facts before you coment on a matter that you clearly have no knowledge of. Mike you should provide proof of Pittston Twp Taxpayers money that was used before you make such a statement saying that is a lie. Mike you should also try to determine why no apparatus is at this station. Mike to say something is a lie when in fact you have inadequate information and you would be unable to sustaniate is also clearly coming from a person who has a hidden agenda.Mike as Scotty said! "Do yourself a favor and shut you mouth when you do not know what you are talking about".

Mike You did make disparaging remrks about the Fire Dept. Shame on you this is a Volunteer Fire Dept that does one hell of of a job. To say that the Senator Lied about no Pittston Twp Taxpayer Money used "Wow". I and everyone else understood that the intent was to inform Pittston Twp Taxpayers that not one penny was received from the municipality to fund any building and and Land at his location, nor was any funding received from their taxes paid to Pittston Twp. Scot is right-Do yourself a favor and button up!

Was there an additional tax for the facility? I live in Pittston Twp. and I have never seen a tax for the fire company. Mike, what do you know that I don't?
