Scholarships available

By Laura Musto Cowher

The Greater Pittston YMCA is working to give all families a chance to enjoy our facility.

Family scholarships and program scholarships are currently available at the YMCA. Scholarships are based on need and are funded through the Greater Pittston YMCA Strong Kids Campaign and the United Way Allocation.

Full and partial family scholarships provide one parent and two parent families full access to the facility for a one-year period. Program scholarships allow children to participate in the YMCA’s youth swimming and sports sessions. For a complete list of programs call the YMCA at 655-2255 ext. 107.

Scholarships applications are available at the front desk at the YMCA. Applications must be completed and contain financial documentation for all members of the household to be eligible for review. Financial documentation includes a copy of a W-2 form, Social Security statement, tax return or paycheck stub. Financial assistance awards are based on the entire household income and number of individuals in the household.

The mission of the YMCA is to “put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.” It has been a tradition of the organization to offer financial assistance in the forms of scholarships.

Scholarships take one to two weeks to process. For more information about the scholarship process, call Laura Cowher at 655-2255 ext. 103.

The Greater Pittston YMCA is located at 10 N. Main St. in Pittston. For information on classes and membership call Laura at 655-2255 ext. 103.
