Y EXERCISE
By Laura Musto Cowher
The Greater Pittston YMCA will begin enrollment for its 2009/2010 childcare programs this month.
Registration will run July 13 to July 24 at the YMCA. Full-day and half-day programs are being offered as well as before and aftercare programs.
“The YMCA is known for ‘building strong kids, strong families, and strong communities,’” said Ronide Louis-Hypolite, childcare director. “This year will be no different.”
Full-day and half-day educational based childcare programs are in place for youths ages two to five-years-old. Classes are broken down by age. Full-day classes include the two-year-old Red Robbins, three-year-old Blue Jays, and the four and five-year-old Yellow Canaries. Half-day programs include the Terrific 2’s, Thinking 3’s, and Fabulous 4 and 5’s.
“We are going to follow the Core Knowledge Curriculum,” said Hypolite. “We offer English, math, social studies, science, art and music at the appropriate age levels.”
Before and aftercare is also being offered for children in kindergarten through eighth grade. An exciting variety of new after school programs are now in place including a drama program, sports activities through the C.A.T.C.H. program, and arts and crafts. A peer tutoring program is also being offered.
For more information or to enroll children at the YMCA, call Ronide Louis-Hypolite at 655-2255.
