Winter Wellness

Warm up this winter with some great new programs at the Greater Pittston YMCA.

Registration in underway for the YMCA’s Winter Session, which runs November 2, 2009, to December 26, 2009.

Reserve your spot now for Boxing 101. The program is designed to teach children the fundamentals of boxing without the pressure or expectation of having to enter the ring. Taught by Jim Scarantino, Boxing 101 promotes physical fitness, self confidence and self defense. Call Program Director Mike Riddle at 655-2255 ext. 104 for more information and pricing.

A Youth Basketball League and Indoor Arena Football League are also planned. The basketball league is open to children in kindergarten through sixth grade. Games are played on Saturday; practices are held once a week. Pioneer Rich Musinski will head the YMCA’s football league this year. The 10-week league is for children ages 6 through 12-years-old. Games are held Sunday mornings; practices are on Wednesdays. Cost is of the leagues is $50 for members; $75 for nonmembers.

The YMCA will host three sports clinics this winter. Shooters & Ball Handling Basketball Academy is planned for Monday’s at 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. for children ages 8 to 15-years-old. The high level shooting clinic will get children ready for the winter basketball season. FUNdamental Basketball Development is scheduled for Tuesdays from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. for children 6 to 12-years-old. Children will work with experienced coaches to develop their basketball skills.

Micro All-Sports is also back for children ages 3 to 5-years-old. Children will be introduced to the fundamentals of basketball, t-ball, floor hockey, and indoor soccer. Price of the clinics is $25 for family members, $35 for members and $45 for nonmembers.

Gymnastics and swimming are also back this winter. Gymnastics will be offered Saturday mornings for beginners through advanced athletes. Private and group swimming lessons are also available. Call the YMCA at 655-2255 ext. 107 for more information.

Halloween At the YMCA

The YMCA is hosting a Halloween Bash for all ghouls big and small on October 30, 2009 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Dress up and join the YMCA staff for a movie screening of “Haunted House,” storytime, arts and crafts, games and more! Call the YMCA at 655-2255 ext 107 for information and pricing.
