Y exercise? August swim special is a great way to get fit

By Laura Musto Cowher

The Greater Pittston YMCA is challenging individuals to jump in and get fit with our new August Swim Special.

The special allows individuals to take unlimited water classes as well as receive unlimited recreational and lap swim time at the YMCA. The special costs $40 and only runs throughout the month of August. For more information call the YMCA at 655-2255.

“This is a great opportunity for individuals to see what our aquatics program has to offer,” said Judy Rostkowski, aquatics director. “We have a wide variety of water classes for all ages.”

Water classes run Monday through Friday in the morning and evenings. The classes include N2Deep, H2O Aerobics, Aquacise, and Arthritis Plus. Classes provide a challenging workout for individuals, but are designed to allow people with limited or no swimming experience to participate.

The N2Deep class has participants use water belts to perform water aerobics exercises in the deep end of the pool. The class promotes cardiovascular fitness and helps increase flexibility and muscle tone. “The class is great for beginners,” said Rostowski.

Aqua Jogging also provides a great workout for individuals and also promotes muscle tone and flexibility. “It gives you the benefits of jogging without the impact on the joints,” said Rostkowski.

H2O Aerobics are for individuals who like a challenge. “It’s a faster pace. It’s going to work you out,” she said.

Finally, Arthritis Plus is specialized class for individuals suffering from joint pain. The class allows individuals to work and stretch the joints.

For information call Laura at 655-2255.
