Wyoming Area School District plans to honor the families, individuals, parent groups, school organizations, private businesses, civic organizations and all those who for many years have donated scholarships to deserving Wyoming Area seniors which are presented at graduation. Monies for these scholarships are donated by individuals, families and in some cases organizations have fundraisers to fund the scholarships. The celebration will take place on May 27, 2010.
This year Wyoming Area is beginning a new tradition, to honor and show appreciation to these donors by bringing together the donors and their immediate family members, officers of a civic organization, etc. and the scholarship winners and their parents at a community outreach and scholarship celebration.
The seniors and the donors will have an opportunity to meet face to face which doesn’t happen often. In some cases the donors and the winners may know each other and meet very briefly. In other cases the donors and recipients never meet. This program will offer each the chance to get acquainted and for the winners and their families to express their appreciation for the award.
The Wyoming Area School District also wants to show its sincere appreciation to the donors of these scholarship awards for their continued generosity to our students.
The planning committee began work on this project in early may and has met with some of the donors already. If you are a donor and you have not been contacted and would like to participate in this program, please contact Mrs. Rabel at the high school at 570-655-2836 extension 2339 and a committee member will get in touch with you.
The planning committee is also working on developing a common application form to be used for all the scholarships awarded through the district. The goal of the committee is for applicants to be able to access and complete the applications on line and then hand in a typed copy for judging.
In the future the committee hopes to make it possible for the applicants for the various scholarships to be able to email the completed application to the donors for judging.
The committee has contacted all donors and met with those donors who are interested in adapting a common application form for their scholarship. If you have not been contacted or have not attended a meeting and would like to hear more about the common application, please call Mrs. Rabel.
Any family, individual, business, civic organization, etc., who would like to donate a scholarship award to deserving Wyoming Area seniors is asked to call the school and speak with Mrs. Rabel, guidance secretary, to set up a meeting to develop your scholarship.
All donors will be invited to the celebration on May 27, 2010 whether they use the common application form or not. It is also important to note that if donors honor their recipients in any other way for example at a dinner meeting, etc, this program is not a substitute for that. This program is in addition to any way in which individuals, groups, etc honor their recipients.
