The Pittston Area Marching Patriots won the Atlantic Coast Championship, Group 1, on Sunday, November 1 with a score of 97.40 at Hershey.

The Atlantic Coast Championships represents bands from 11 states.

Leading up to this win, the Marching Patriots took the Tournament of Bands, Chapter 7, Group 1 Championship with a score of 93.25, with special awards for Percussion and Auxiliary.

The Marching Patriots performed their 2009 program titled “A Night at the Opera” with music from the Overture to Ruslan and Ludmila by Glienke, Nessun Dorma from Turandot, made famous by Luciano Pavoratti and more recently by Andrea Bocelli, and closing with Danse Bacchanale from Samson and Delila by composer Camille Saint-Saens.

The band is under the direction of Adam Burdett.

On November 14 they will defend their 2008 Cavalcade of Bands Independence Conference Championship, also at Hershey, which will be their final competition for the season.
