On Friday, October 23 the Primary Center second “What’s Special About October” Assembly was held. The assembly featured special happenings that take place during the month of October. Mrs. Pramick’s 1st grade class, and Mrs. Shovlin’s 2nd grade class highlighted monthly happenings by performing poems, songs, and movements about October. Parent Conference schedules have been sent home. Students will be dismissed at 1:00 on the following Parent Conference Days: Tuesday, November 17, Wednesday, November 18, Thursday, November 19, and Friday, November 20. It is important for you to be a part of your child’s education. If you need to reschedule your conference you can call the school at 655-3785. Our teachers are looking forward to discussing student progress with parents.
Names of family members who served or are serving in the military are displaying on a streamer of stars on the two Primary Center Veteran’s Memorial Walls. Classes on each floor have individual displays to honor our veterans. Be sure to look for your family names when you attend conferences this week! Students will apply their reading, math, and writing skills to this project as they discuss the finished activity display.
Remember to read to your child daily. Talk about the story afterwards and take turns telling about your favorite part or character. A book about twenty eight relatives and friends sharing a holiday meal is “Thanksgiving is Here” by Diane Goode.
Make Thanksgiving cards with your child to practice writing names. Review the rule that names begin with a capital letter. Let your child try to write the names of family members and friends. Use groups of three names and practice putting the names in alphabetical order.
Practice counting out equal piles of cheerios, buttons, or dry elbow noodles. Make piles of 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. Count the names of equal piles that were able to be made for the different amounts. Do the same activity with leftover items from each equal set.
If a student is sent home from school because of sickness, the homework for that day will be sent home with the student. As a health precaution, work does not have to be picked up daily. Students who are absent because of illness can complete missed homework when they return to school. Work will be sent home each day until all work has been completed. New skills will be taught upon the student’s return to school. While home, students and parents should review papers from previous work sent home in the VIP folder. Reread sentences, recopy math problems, and practice reading from the decodable books already sent home. Students can also log on and complete lessons on the Compass link of the Pittston Area Home Page on the web.
