Holy Rosary School holds 2009-2010 Student Council Induction

The 2009-2010 Student Council Induction Service was recently held at Holy Rosary School. The students processed to the stage, and after the opening prayer, the members took their Oaths of Office. Officers, commissioners, and representatives were presented with their pins, which were blessed by Deacon James Cortegerone. Ms. Kathleen Gilmartin, Principal, pledged her support for the Student Council, followed by the faculty, students, and parents. As each individual or group pledged their support, candles were lit. Danielle Patane, Student Council President, Mrs. Betsy Kozak, faculty member, Mrs. Christine Patane`, parent representative, and Amelia Desiderio, student body representative, each lit a candle, representing the light of Christ, which will shine forth in each group. The Holy Rosary School Junior Choir, under the direction of Mr. David Tighe, provided musical accompaniment for the service, and a reception was held afterward for the inductees and their families.

The Student Council members would like to thank Mrs. Casey, their moderator, for her enthusiastic support and guidance, as well as those who helped to make this service a memorable one for all.

We invite all to take some time to view the wonderful projects and displays created by our seventh and eighth grade students. Last year, our students advanced to the State Competition level in both Technology Fair and in the PA Junior Academy of Science, and we know we’ll see a repeat performance this year! Good luck to all participants.

Diocesan Annual Appeal

As you may have seen, this year the contribution form for the Diocesan Annual Appeal has check-off boxes on the back. These boxes provide an opportunity to indicate the ministry to which you would like you contribution to go. Please consider a contribution to your parish appeal this year, and when so doing, we would appreciate it if you would indicate schools on your pledge card. Thank you in advance for this visible and important statement in support of Catholic Education in our Catholic Schools.

75th Anniversary

Calling all alumni and current school families! Plans are underway for several events to be held in celebration of Holy Rosary School’s 75th anniversary. Committees are being formed for:

Liturgy: This committee will prepare all aspects of the liturgical celebrations held during the 75th anniversary year, culminating with the 75th Anniversary Liturgy, to be celebrated on Sunday, May 30, 2010. Dinner Dance: This committee will develop a list of invited guests, design, address, and mail invitations, determine dinner selections, and coordinate all other aspects of the Dinner-Dance to be held on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at the Woodlands, Wilkes-Barre. Fundraising: This committee will determine and oversee fundraising activities, including a Cash Raffle and a Sponsor Book. Publicity: This committee will publicize 75th Anniversary events, and design letters and ads. School Celebration: This committee, comprised of current faculty, staff and families, will identify celebrations to be held for current school children, coordinate the celebrations, and oversee all details of these celebrations. Information requesting volunteers for these committees was sent home this past week. We welcome all to participate in this most important milestone in our school’s history.

Tab Collection

The Holy Rosary Student Council will be collecting ring tabs for the Ronald McDonald House throughout the school year. Please send them to school with your children.

Recycling

In addition to cartridge recycling we also have cell phone recycling. Select cell phones can be dropped off in the same location and recycled for credit. For more information or for a list of qualifying cartridges, visit www.fundingfactory.com or contact Mrs. Skutack at 457-2553.

Labels & Box Tops

Campbell’s Soup labels and Box Tops for Education are being collected at Holy Rosary School. These programs enable us to provide educational resources that may be unaffordable through our regular budget. They offer exciting merchandise like computers, software, sports equipment, reference materials, science and art items, even musical instruments. Please continue your support of these programs by sending in your labels to the school office or by placing them in the church vestibule. If you have any questions, please contact the school’s office. Also, please check labels for expiration dates. They can be sent in immediately and processed before they expire; there is no need to wait until you accumulate a quantity.
