Twas a great day for the Irish and the “Irish for a Day” at Holy Rosary School. The first grade almost caught a leprechaun. With the help of Mrs. Gedrich’s dad, who built their “leprechaun catcher” they set a trap, complete with a pot of gold to lure the little green man. When they arrived at school on St. Patrick’s Day, they found their gold gone, with nothing left in the trap but a tiny boot and a note: “I got your loot, and you got my boot, but you’ll never catch a leprechaun!”
It was an exciting day for the first grade pictured with their teacher, Mrs. Lauren Gedrich.
The Little Flower Club and their moderators Chris Mazaleski and Theresa Koviak celebrated St. Patrick’s Day by offering smiling “Irish eyes” to those in need. They made centerpieces for the St. Patrick’s Day Dinner hosted by the Friends of the Poor at the St. Mary’s Center in Scranton.
Three of the Little Flowers: Hannah Ferenchick, Kalley Kovaleski, and Julie Mazaleski delivered and set up the centerpieces and helped to serve dinner. They also provided some entertainment, dancing an Irish Jig that Mr. Tighe had taught them in music class. They were the hit of the party.
Pictured are the Little Flowers with Bishop Emeritus James Timlin and entertaining the guests by dancing the jig.
On Saturday, March 20th, sixth and eighth grade students competed at the National History Day regional competition held at Penn State, Lehman campus. The students, under the direction of junior high history teacher, Miss Mary Smee, presented individual and group projects. Their hard work was evident, and we are very proud of them!
The school family will gather in prayer on Thursday, March 25th in Holy Rosary Church to celebrate the feast of the Annunciation. The prayer service will begin at 8:45, and all are welcome to join us for this important day honoring the Blessed Mother, our school patroness.
The eighth grade class will lead the student body in prayer on Friday, March 26th at 9:00 a.m. as they portray the Living Stations, retelling the story of the Passion and Death of Our Lord. The class, under the direction of Mrs. Debbie Brady, eighth grade teacher, and Mr. David Tighe, music teacher, will portray each person whom Jesus met on the road to Calvary. The students will also portray the Living Stations on Palm Sunday evening, March 28th at 7:00 p.m., and will offer an insightful beginning to our Holy Week.
All are welcome to pray with us.
