Holy Rosary’s second grade has a ‘Spooktacular’ Halloween

Holy Rosary School students and their families had a great time celebrating Halloween on Friday, October 30th. Everyone enjoyed the parade and the classroom parties. It was a great “warm-up” to the trick-or-treating of the next day. Our thanks to the PTO who supplied the treats, and to the Duryea Police Department, who provided the escort for our parade. Pictured are some our second graders preparing for the day’s events. They look “spook-tacular!!”

Congratulations

Congratulations to our Junior Varsity Forensic Team members Nina Mucciolo and Michael Pope, and their coach, Mrs. Nancy Musso. Nina and Michael competed in the Diocesan Final Competition held Thursday, November 5th at St. Nick/St. Mary’s School. Their hard work and talent was obvious and we are “Royally Proud” of them.

Young Scholars

Congratulations to the four eighth graders who represented Holy Rosary School in the Scranton Prep Young Scholars Program on Saturday, November 7th. Nick Preston, Rico Connors, Andrew Mies, and Kyler Kovaleski, and their moderator, Mrs. Debbie Brady, represented Holy Rosary well, and we were amazed at all they knew!! The Class of 2010 also made us “Royally Proud.”

Report Cards

Report Cards for grades 2-8 will be distributed on Monday, November 9th. First grade will receive their first report cards in January and children in the kindergarten and preschool four year-old program will receive progress reports in January as well. Student Council Service Projects

Mrs. Lisa Casey, Student Council Moderator, asks for your support in the following service projects, which are currently underway.

Greater Pittston Food Pantry: Each month the student council members collects specific food items that are donated to the Greater Pittston Food Panty located in the Seton building. For the month of November we are collecting stuffing mixes, boxes of instant potatoes, cans of yams, and cans of cranberries. If you would like to donate any of these items, please send them with your child to Mrs. Casey, Student Council Moderator. Any help would be deeply appreciated.

Greater Pittston Kid’s Closet: We are asking Holy Rosary families to look into their closet and find items of clothing they have outgrown, and donate them to this worthy cause. Clothing must be clean, gently used, free from rips or tears and have no offensive language on it. This year the need is particularly great. Please send your donations to school in a plastic bag marked BOY or GIRL. Also, please mark the approximate size. In addition to our usual collection, as the winter season begins, we know many children are desperately in need of winter hats, gloves, and scarves. Please help!

Soda Tabs for Ronald McDonald House: The Student Council members are collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House in Scranton. If you would like to help with this project, please send the tabs to school with your child and give them to Mrs. Casey, Student Council moderator.

Bon-Ton Community Days: The Bon-Ton at the Wyoming Valley Mall has offered us a great deal. We are selling Community Days booklets for $5.00. This Student Council fundraiser will benefit service work within our school. The Community Day Event will take place on Nov. 14th, 2009 from 6AM until closing. The certificates can be used at any Bon-Ton. When you purchase a booklet, you will receive a $10.00 gift certificate that can be used on the day of the event. You will also receive six 20% off coupons for your other shopping. Wouldn’t this be a great way to buy items for Christmas and save some money while you are helping out the school? If you would like a booklet, send in $5.00 in an envelope to Mrs. Casey with your name.

Gift Certificate

New stores have been added to the pre-order form. They are Ace Hardware, Advance Auto Parts, Amazon.com, Auto Zone, Ulta Salons, and Subway. Sunshine Market has suspended all sales of Gift Cards as of Sept. 21st. All card balances must be used by Nov. 16th. No refunds will be given on unused balances. Vouchers sales for the school year are held in the Holy Rosary Church Hall each Thursday from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. School families may send in your orders on Wednesday to be filled on Thursday. If you have any questions, you may contact Teresa at 457-9001.
