Thanksgiving Dinner at Senior Center on Thursday

Are you eligible for benefits and don’t know it? RSVP Ambassadors will be available at the Pittston Senior Citizens Center by appointment only to check. To set up an appointment to see if you are eligible for any of these programs contact Connie or Hazel at 655-5561.

Tickets are now on sale for the annual Christmas Party on Sunday, December 13 from 12 to 5 p.m. at Jenkins Township Social Hall. Cost is $23. G.T.O. will provide the music for your dancing or listening pleasure. Space is limited so please get your reservations in early. For further information, contact Connie.

Apprise volunteers will be available by appointment only for Medicare recipients to examine different prescription plans and decide whether to stay in their present plan or change to a new plan during the open enrollment dates of November 15 to December 31, 2009. To set up an appointment call Connie or Hazel.

The Thanksgiving Special Dinner will be held on Thursday, November 19 at 12 noon. You must order a meal at least one day in advance by 1 p.m. A special Thanksgiving and program will be held.

The hiking group will meet on November 19th at 10 a.m. at Frances Slocum State Park (weather permitting). If you would like to join the group please be at the park by 10 a.m. Nikki Lavenda is the group leader.

Registration is now being taken for a one day computer class on Monday, November 23rd from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Computer basics, e-mail and internet will be covered. There is no charge for this class but pre-registration is required as space is limited. To register call the center at 655-5561.

Senior Citizens Centers, sponsored by the Area Agency on Aging for Luzerne/Wyoming counties, offer hot noon meals Monday through Friday to people 60 years of age or older. Donations from participants are gratefully accepted and needed in order to expand this program.

The following is the menu for the week of November 16:

Monday – chicken with steamed asian vegetable mix, rice, mixed greens, house salad dressing, whole wheat dinner roll, orange, margarine, milk and coffee.

Tuesday – Salisbury steak, scalloped potatoes, zucchini and yellow squash, rice cake, cranberry juice, wheat dinner roll, chocolate brownie, margarine, milk and coffee.

Wednesday – roast pork w/thin gravy, low sodium sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, melba toast, 12-grain bread, pea soup, diced peaches, margarine, milk and coffee.

Thursday – Thanksgiving Day Special Dinner – roast turkey w/ gravy, stuffing, sweet potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, pumpkin parfait, margarine, milk and coffee.

Friday – beef chili, brown rice, garden salad, lite French dressing, cornbread, birthday cake, margarine, milk and coffee.
