PD Anniversaries

George "Nipper" and Judith Nowakowski, Duryea, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married January 23, 1960 in Holy Rosary Church, Duryea by the late Rev. John Galenas and the late Rev. Leo Kosloski. They were attended by Joan Blasco Lake, the late Ann Nowakowski, Marie Bomba Stavish, Barbara Brigido Quinn, Edward Nowakowski, Edward O’Malley, Francis Waseleski, John Engleman, the late Cynthia Moss Hastings and Phyllis Rincavage Falkowski.

Mrs. Nowakowski is the daughter of the late Thomas and Stella Blasco, Pittston. She attended Pittston schools and graduated from Wilkes-Barre Business College. She worked as Assistant to the Buyers for Pomeroy’s Department Store. Mrs. Nowakowski has been the organist and choir director for Holy Rosary Church for many years.

Mr. Nowakowski is the son of the late Stanley and Josephine Nowakowski, Pittston. He attended Pittston schools. Prior to retirement he was a United States Marine, a pitcher for the New York Yankees, an adjunct professor for Lackawanna Junior College and a Pennsylvania State Trooper.

Mr. and Mrs. Nowakowski have four children, Linda Oliveri and her husband Albert; Tom and his wife Jackie, Maria Mazzarella and her husband Scott and Laura Brady and her husband Gene. They have eleven grandchildren, A.J. and Alyssa Oliveri, Amanda Calvey, David Brocca, Tom and Jackie Nowakowski, Mathew, Lauren and Nicolas Mazzarella and Ava and Olivia Brady. They also have two great grandchildren, Emma and Madalyn Calvey.

The occasion was celebrated with a family dinner.
