First Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Michael Cowher celebrated their first anniversary on June 28, 2009. Mrs. Cowher is the daughter of Judge and Mrs. Joseph Musto of Duryea. Mr. Cowher is the son of Melvin Cowher and Frances Wertz of North Carolina. They were married in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Pittston on June 28, 2008 by the Reverend Gregory Finn.

The bride, escorted by her father, was attended by her sister-in-law, Caitlin Musto, matron of honor and Suzanne Alba, maid of honor. She also chose her cousins Sarah Karess and Leila Tucker as bridesmaids. Donald Engleman, served as best man. Groomsmen were Mark Cowher, brother of the groom, Rob Musto, brother of the bride and David Schmig. The bride and groom chose Joseph Tucker, godson of the bride, as junior usher. Flower girls were Olivia Musto, niece of the bride and Jana Welch, Maggie Cowher and Hannah Rankey, nieces of the groom.

A memorial candle in honor of deceased family members was lit by Jacqueline Gallagher with a reading by Attorney Jacqueline Carroll, cousins of the bride. Scriptural readings were given by Donna Yentz, Leslie Casella and Tish Doreskewicz. The offertory gifts were presented by Dr. Gina Karess, aunt of the bride, Christina Welch, sister of the groom and Catie Cowher, sister-in-law of the groom. Organist and soloist was Judith Samartzis.

An evening reception was held at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish Center, catered by Cafe Olivia of Pittston. A shower in honor of the bride given by her attendants, her aunt, Dr. Gina Karess and her mother was held at Cafe Olivia. The couple enjoyed a honeymoon cruise to the Caribbean. They reside in Hughestown.

Mr. Cowher graduated from Montoursville High School and attended Penn State University. He is employed by Verizon Inc as a splicing technician. Mrs. Cowher graduated from Pittston Area High school and King’s College. She is employed by the Greater Pittston YMCA as the membership and marketing representative.
