Walter Popish of West Pittston recently celebrated his 35th birthday. He is pictured with his son Cody, a 7th grade student at Wyoming Area Catholic School. This is a milestone for him because he has Cystic Fibrosis – a disease that has no cure that affects the lungs and intestines. Walter has been battling lung infections and has to be hospitalized at Hershey Medical Center for treatment every 6 to 8 weeks now. He is now using oxygen at home and it’s getting difficult for him to get around. He enjoys taking his son out fishing and hunting and going to watch his basketball games. His doctors have advised him that he needs a lung transplant because his lung capacity is at about 30%. He just received word of an appointment at a Pittsburgh Hospital for an evaluation and to be put on the transplant list.
