Children of all ages are invited to participate in the Annual Children’s Day at the Pittston Farmer’s Market on South Main Street on Tuesday, August 25. Every child attending will receive a Tomato Festival Dollar to be used at the market. Registration will begin at 10:15 a.m. Story time by Melissa Szafran, Director of the Pittston Memorial Library will be held at 11:00 a.m. followed by a sing-a-long.

Treats that will be available are mini potato pancakes at Nancy Paradis’s Potato Pancake stand; candy apples at Brace’s Orchard stand; lemon ice at Lennie Pribula’s ice cart, and cookies at the Amish stand. Fruits and vegetables will be plentiful as well.
Vendors are accepting PA Department of Agriculture Vouchers until the close of the market in mid November. Free parking is available on the upper Tomato Festival lot adjacent to the Pittston Fire House.
The market is opened every Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. with a large variety of locally grown produce.
Free space is offered to charitable civic organizations. Information may be obtained by calling Maria C. and Chester Montante at 655-2398.
On May 28, Stacy Pisano graduated from Luzerne County Community College Association Nursing Degree Program and passed her NCLEX Boards on July 20. She is now a Registered Nurse. Stacy was the vice president of the Nursing Forum at LCCC in 2007-2008 and then became the president for 2008-2009. She graduated PSI BETA, the National Honor Society in Psychology for Community and Junior Colleges. She is a 2004 graduate of Pittston Area High School.
Stacy is the daughter of Joyce Pisano of Duryea and John Pisano of Dupont. She is the sister of Alyson Ross, brother-in-law Jeff Ross, nephew Jeffrey Jr. and grandfather Ted Malopolski. Stacy plans on working in Pediatrics or Psychology and eventually moving to Florida to be with the rest of her family.

Saint Joseph’s University, Philadelphia recently announced that Alana Chiampi of Exeter has been chosen to participate in the University’s Summer Scholarship Program. Through this program, Chiampi will work with Jean Smolen Ph.D. associate professor of chemistry, on a scholarly project with a research focus on the role of lipids in the reductive dissolution of iron oxides.
Joseph L. Mihok of Exeter, a student at St. Joseph’s University, Haub School of Business, Philadelphia, has been named to the Dean’s List for the spring 2009 semester. He is a sophomore majoring in finance and marketing. Joseph is an honors graduate from Scranton Preparatory School. He is the son of Kathy and Joe Mihok and has a sister, Christina and a brother, Anthony, both at Scranton Prep and a sister, Faith at St. Mary’s Assumption, Pittston.

Sunday, September 13 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 237 William Street, Pittston Township from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Tuesday, September 15 at VFW Post #4909, 403 Main Street, Dupont from 12:30 – 6 p.m.
Monday, September 28 at Plains American Legion, 101 East Carey Street, Plains from 1 to 6 p.m.
The Hughestown Hose Company will be sponsoring the Annual All You Can Eat Pig Roast on Sunday, September 6. The event will be held at the Fire Company grounds located at 30 Center Street, Hughestown from 2 to 9 p.m. There will be entertainment and games.
A donation of $20 is requested. Tickets can be purchased from any hose company member or by contacting the fire house at 654-4188. Children’s tickets can be purchased at the gate. For more information about this event or any at the hose company visit the website at www.hughestownfiredept.us.
