Ann Ross called the chat line about two BMX bicycles that were stolen a week ago from a Yatesville yard. One, a GT Compe, was brand new in May. It’s red and tan with front and back brakes on the handle bar.

Thomas Ruskey, the scholarship chairman for the Jenkins Township Lions Club has announced the names of the winners of the 2009 “Jenkins Lions Annual Scholarship Awards.” The Jenkins Township Lions are located in District 14-W, Pennsylvania MD-14, USA. Jenkins Township is located in the northeast part on the State of Pennsylvania, 2 hours north of Philadelphia.
The first place $500 winner was Brian Musto, University of Scranton, 2nd place, $300 winner was Shannon O’Malley, Penn State University; and the 3rd place, $200 winner was Lauren Rossi, Penn State University. These awards were presented at a recent Lions Club meeting where the students and their families were also treated to a pizza party.
Each year the Jenkins Lions award a total of $1000 to second year students in the township. This has been the 24th consecutive year for this special recognition program.
On behalf of the Jenkins Lions, Chairman Ruskey, “wishes to congratulate all applicants on their fine academic record. We wish each of you luck and success in the coming year. Your parents and our community are proud of you, keep up the good work. Each year the applicant quality just keeps getting better and better. They come from all types of fields, are very diverse and all have excellent GPAs.”
Ryan Patrick Fahey, son of Joseph and Monica Fahey, Chesapeake, VA recently graduated Hickory High School and has entered at East Carolina University. He was a two-year starter at Hickory High School football and co-captain his senior year. He was ranked 25th in a class of 527. He is a grandson of Joe and Ann Fahey, Duryea and Martha and the late Jack McShane, Silver Spring, Maryland. He was also an honor student and member of the national honor society.
The Northmoreland Twp. Vol Fire Co. will hold a Roast Beef Dinner on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009 at 5 to 7 p.m. at their Fire Hall on Demunds Road, Centermorland. Eat in or Take-out, tickets available from any Fire Co. member or at the door, Adults $7, Children 12 and under $4.
