Knights of Columbus to hold breakfast on Oct. 11

The Knights of Columbus President John F. Kennedy Council 372 will hold a Columbus Day Community Breakfast Buffet on Sunday, October 11 at the Council Home, 55 South Main Street in Pittston. Breakfast will be served from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. On the all you can eat menu is scrambled eggs, home fried potatoes (plain or with peppers & onion), ham , bacon, sausage, toast, cereal, coffee, tea, milk, and juice.

Tickets are $8.00 for adults, $5.00 for Children 6-12 years, and children 5 and under are free. Take $1.00 off your ticket price with your donation of a non-perishable food item which will be donated to the Greater Pittston Food Pantry.

Locks of Love-

Jessica Hopkins, 10, donated her hair to Locks of Love recently. Jessica got her hair cut on Saturday September 19 from Michael Garubba of Signatures. She hasn’t had her hair cut since kindergarten.

She is the daughter of Judey and Francis Hopkins of West Pittston and has a brother, Ray Hopkins who is 12 years old and in the 7th grade at Wyoming Area. Jessica is a 5th grader at Montgomery Avenue in Miss Yeager’s class.

First Place-

Joe Coyne IV of Duryea won first place in the Annual Chili Cookoff Contest hosted by The Unknown Riders Motocycle Club. Each year, the Unknown Riders from Hickory Swamp Patch, Pennsylvania, coordinate a "Fallen Biker/Chili Cookoff Night". They remember and honor all fellow bikers who have passed away. This is Joe’s second year participating in the contest. Last year he won the third place trophy. Congratulations, Joe!

Blood Drive-

The Wyoming Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross is announcing the following blood drive, Friday, October 30 at Wesley Village, 209 Roberts Road Pittston from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Employee of the Month-

Richard Golden, CEO, Golden Technologies, is pleased to announce that Old Forge resident John Budinas has been named the Employee of the Month for September 2009.

John Budinas has been employed as an Upholsterer at Golden Technologies since 2004. He was selected for this honor due to his excellent attendance record, his cooperative attitude and his attention to quality.

When asked about receiving this award, Budinas commented, “The extra money will be put to good use”. John received a plaque, monetary gift and the reserved Employee of the Month parking spot.

Ask the Doctor-

The Better Breathers Club, a support group for those suffering from COPD and other lung health issues, will meet on Tuesday, October 6 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the John Heinz Rehab Center, 150 Mundy Street in Wilkes Barre.

The meeting is sponsored by the American Lung Association in Pennsylvania.

The theme of the meeting will be “Ask the Doctor” so participants will be able to address their lung health concerns one-on-one with a local physician.

The event is free of charge.
