Laflin Library hosting book fair this week

The Laflin Public Library will be working with Barnes & Noble, Arena Hub Plaza, Wilkes-Barre by hosting a book fair on Monday, November 16 through Wednesday, November 18. During those three days, Barnes & Noble will donate a percentage of every sale made with a special voucher to our Library. Vouchers are available at our Library and will also be available on-line at www.laflinlibrary.org.

The book fair will help raise needed funds to continue to purchase the latest books, periodicals and educational material needed by children, young adults and our adult patrons who frequent the library. A few events have been planned during the book fair - Monday, November 16, children may make and take a craft home with them during certain hours throughout the day; Tuesday, November 17, Red Robin will make a visit during story time at 10:00 a.m. and Wednesday, November 18, Tux, the Penguins Mascot, will be on hand from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

Free Kitten-

An eight week old male kitten is free to a good home. The cat is a solid black with white tuxedo bib and white tipped paws and feet. He has been vet treat (feline leukemia tested negative) and overall excellent health. He is litter box trained and ready to go to his new home. Call Marie at 655-0283 or 881-4376.

Shop and help the SPCA-

Help the SPCA of Luzerne County by shopping at the Barnes & Noble Bookfair at the Arena Hub on Saturday, November 21. When checking out, use the code number, 10016137. This code gets a percentage of every sale for the SPCA of Luzerne County. This code number can also be used at any Barnes & Noble in the country that particular day.

Lose your keys?-

Keys were found in the Dispatch parking lot on Friday morning. The keys have a Matt Burne Honda keychain. Call Judy at 602-0168 or stop by the office during business hours to claim the keys.

Breast Cancer Fundraiser-

A one day bus trip to New York City will be held on Saturday, November 21 to raise money for breast cancer research. The bus will depart from Wegman’s in Wilkes-Barre at 7:30 a.m. and will leave New York around 7:30 p.m. Participants will be free to schedule and arrange their own activities for that day. Tickets are $30. A fundraising auction will be held on the bus en route to the city. All monies raised will go directly to the American Cancer Society’s breast cancer research fund. Thanksgiving Food Project-

Registered households of The Greater Pittston Food Pantry may receive special Thanksgiving food items through The Commission on Economic Opportunity (CEO). Applications may be submitted by phone through Nov. 19 by calling any of the following numbers 825-0968; 825-0268; or 208-7017 Monday-Friday from 10-4 pm.

Jenkins Lunch Bunch-

The Jenkins Township Class of ’51 Lunch Bunch will meet on Thursday, November 19 at La Piazza’s on River Road, Port Blanchard at noon. All class members are welcome to attend.

Selling Entertainment Books-

The Ladies of UNICO are selling 2010 Entertainment Books. The books can be used immediately. They have many 50% coupons and offerings for area restaurants, dry cleaners, grocers, chain stores, movie and video rental stores. Many are two for one offers. The cost of the books is $20.00 each. Proceeds benefit the Wyoming Valley Children’s Association.
