O’Malley awarded Harvard Scholarship

Inkerman native Caitlin O’Malley graduated with High Distinction from the Schreyer-Honors College at the Pennsylvania State University on May 16. She received two Bachelor of Arts degrees: one in Public Relations and the other in International Politics.

Amie Rosiak

Caitlin was an editorial writer for the Collegian Newspaper and a member of the distinctive Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. During her senior year at Penn State, she was President of the Blue and White Society, the largest organization on campus. Upon her graduation the Alumni Society appointed Caitlin to lead a 16-day Graduation Tour of Europe.

During summer vacations from school Caitlin worked as an Intern for Senator Arlen Specter. She, also, worked for the Department of the Interior in Washington, D.C. as a Park Ranger at Wolf Trap National Park.

A year long Fellowship on the Study of the Presidency brought Caitlin to the White House where she met speech writers for both President Bush and President Obama. She attended workshops with speakers such as, George Stephanopoulos. She used that experience to write her thesis which was published by Penn State University.

Caitlin is currently studying at Harvard Law School, Cambridge, MA. She is a graduate of Seton Catholic High School and St. John the Baptist Elementary School.

Caitlin is the daughter of Joe and Liz O’Malley, Inkerman. Her grandparents are Sarah McNulty and the late Jim McNulty, Inkerman and Joe O’Malley Sr. and the late Edith O’Malley, Pittston. She has three sisters. Bridget and Shannon are both students in the Schreyer-Honors College, Penn State. Maureen lives in the Washington, D.C. area.

Happy Birthday-

Happy birthday to Nora English of Pittston Township who will celebrate on August 5.

Happy birthday wishes go out to The Rev. Edward M. Masakowski, former senior pastor of St. Mark’s Church in Inkerman, Jenkins Township and now residing in Wilkes-Barre, will celebrate his big day on Monday, August 10.

Special birthday wishes to Joe (Shagger) Dillon of Port Griffith who will celebrate his birthday on Saturday, August 15. Joe now retired was a former chief engineer/conductor for Conrail Railroad in the local Northeast Pennsylvania Area. (Semper Fi Joe)

Rosemarie Butera of Jenkins Township will celebrate on August 3.

Ryan Barhight of Hughestown will celebrate August 7.

Belated Birthdays-

Happy belated birthday to Tony Guariglia, who celebrated his special day on July 21st and also to his daughter Alyvia, who celebrated her special day on July 26th.

Anniversary Wishes-

Alex and Charlene Luckasavage of Pittston Township are celebrating their anniversary on August 4. The couple is blessed with a son Philip who is a special education major at Marywood University and a daughter Jillian, also a special education major at King’s College.

Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center announces newborns

A girl was born to Leighann Gombach and Seth Michael Odell of Forty Fort on July 17.

A boy was born to Krystal Kuranovich and Jose M. Rivera, Jr. of Pittston on July 21

A girl was born to Jacqueline Capozucca and Brian Bond on July 22.

A girl was born to Jennifer and Scott Hines of West Pittston on July 28.

Employee of the Month-

Richard Golden, CEO, Golden Technologies, is pleased to announce that Pittston native Amie Rosiak has been named the Employee of the Month for July 2009.

Rosiak, Golden’s Literature Coordinator, has been employed at Golden Technologies since 2000. She was selected for this honor due to her excellent attendance record and her willingness to take on new responsibilities. She is also known throughout the company as a great team player, helping other departments whenever needed.

Rosiak received a plaque, monetary gift and the reserved Employee of the Month parking spot. Amie is the daughter of Tom and Rebecca Rosiak of Pittston.

Dean’s List-

Jessica L. Donahue of Pittston has earned dean’s list honors at Saint Joseph’s University for the spring 2009 semester.

Recent Grad-

Army Staff Sgt. Charles D. Gundrum has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

Gundrum is the son of Ralph Gundrum of Pittston.

The staff sergeant graduated in 2002 from Southern Columbia Area High School, Catawissa, Pa., and received a bachelor’s degree in 2007 from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania.
