Kathryn Ann Sallavanti of Old Forge was among the 270 graduates awarded the Doctor of Osteopathic Medcine during the 118th commencement at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

The ceremony was held at the Academy of Mucis in Philadelphia on Sunday, May 31. Dr. Sallavanti is the daughter of Armando and Kathy Sallavanti of Old Forge, and the granddaughter of Edwin and Ann Breig and the late Armando and Flora Salllavanti, also of Old Forge. Her brother, Dr. Armando Sallavanti, is a 1995 PCOM graduate.
She is a 2001 graduate of Old Forge High School and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Lycoming College in 2005. Dr. Sallavanti is continuing her medical training at the Geisinger Health System, Danville.
Columnist Jackie Borthwick-Galvin and her husband, Jim, recently discovered a litter of four beautiful orange colored tabby kittens in her mother’s yard, and they need good homes. If you’re interested in providing one (or even more) of these little ones with a happy life please call Jackie at 457-3351.
Alexander “Sherman” Knoll of Pittston Township has been named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at the University of Central Florida attaining a 4.0 GPA. Alex has maintained a 4.0 for the last four semesters which earned him the UCF Scholarship Award for academic excellence. He is in the honors program and majoring in molecular biology and microbiology and minoring in chemistry. He is doing undergraduate research in the biology department. Knoll is a 2007 graduate of Pittston Area.

Belated birthday wishes go out to Tony Bianco who celebrated on June 13, Feast Day of St. Anthony, a saint Tony admires. Tony is a member of the Italian American Association and also Our Lady of Mount Carmel’s Holy Name Society.

Golden Technologies, Inc. in Old Forge has named Patricia Stout, of Pittston, Employee of the Month for June 2009. Pat is in their sewing department and has been a sewing machine operator for over 35 years. She worked for Diane-Elaine Frocks and Leslie Fay prior to joining Golden 15 years ago. Pat has such a pleasant personality, she welcomes different job tasks, is the last one to leave her machine at the end of the day, she is a very hard working dedicated employee.
Brianne Smithonic, a recent graduate of Penn State, University Park, has been notified of her acceptance to the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts where she will compete her pre-clinical training. She was also named to the Dean’s List at Penn State for the spring semester with a 3.63 GPA.
While at Penn State she was a member of the Pre-Vet club for four years and served as an officer for the past two years. She was also an active participant in THON, raising money for pediatric cancer patients.
Brianne is the daughter of Ron and Sandy Smithonic of Dupont.
