Carly Sokach of West Pittston, a sophomore at Wyoming Seminary Upper School, was selected to serve as Sem’s alternate representative to the annual Hugh O’Brian Youth Foundation Leadership Seminar (HOBY), held May 14-17, 2009 at Millersville University.

While at the seminar, Sokach received a scholarship to attend the World HOBY Foundation Leadership Seminar to be held July 25-31 at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
For more than 40 years HOBY, a non-profit, non tax-supported youth leadership development organization, has worked to help young people make a difference and become positive catalysts for change in the home, school, workplace and community. Each year, more than 20,000 high school students participate in about 88 leadership seminars held throughout North America.
Sokach, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Sokach, also received the Edwin J. Roberts Memorial Prize for high scholarship in Latin at the annual Sem Awards Assembly.

A girl was born to Lesley and Patrick Ratchford of Wyoming on June 6.
A girl was born to Patricia Neely and Shaun Kintz of Plains on June 6.
Stephanie Kudey, daughter of Gene and Mary Kay Kudey, Pittston, has achieved a 4.0 grade point average for the 2008/2009 school year at Penn State Worthington Scranton. This year she was the recipient of the Evan Pugh Scholar Award, which is presented to juniors and seniors whose academic achievement places them in the top 0.5 portion of their class. Stephanie also received recognition for having the highest GPA of a third year student at this campus. In years past, she has also been recognized for having the highest GPA of a second year student and also demonstrating excellence in creative writing. Stephanie is ambitiously working towards a degree in Human Development and Family Studies and will be a senior in the fall.
Alyssa Leandri of Wyoming has been named to the Dean’s List for the spring 2009 semester at Penn State University. She is a sophomore majoring in elementary education. She is the daughter of Debbie Leandri of Wyoming and Joesph Leandri of Exeter. She has a sister Rachel at Wyoming Area.
Dara. A. Dirhan of West Pittston a student at West Chester University of Pennsylvania has been named to the Dean’s List. Dara is the daughter of Coleman and Diane Dirhan, and is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics. To be recognized on the Dean’sList a student must obtain a grade point average of 3.67 or better.
Katie Searfoss, of Pittston Twp., recently graduated with honors from Johnson College with a degree in Radiologic Technology. Prior to graduation, she was inducted into the Chi Alpha Epsilon Honor Society. She also received the “Clinical Achievement Award” for her outstanding performance during her clinical rotation at Marian Community Hospital in Carbondale. Katie is now registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
Katie is the daughter of Russ and Mary Jo Searfoss, Pittston Township.
