Pack your hat, gloves and holiday spirit for a day trip to New York City on Thursday, December 10. For $25 enjoy a relaxing Martz bus ride to the city where you can join us for a historic church group tour, or choose from a self-guided tours for architect enthusiasts, museum go-ers and shoppers.
Of course, you can always grab a map and do your own thing. The bus will pick you up at the Atlas Building on 4th and Pacific Ave. in West Pittston at 6:45am and make sure you’re well fed with Sweet Caroline’s muffins and well caffeinated with Dunkin’ Donuts coffee.
You’ll depart from NYC at 6:30 p.m. The historic church group tour is limited to the first 12 people and the bus trip is limited to 55 people.
Payment is due at signup; all proceeds benefit the West Pittston Library and the West Pittston Historical Society.
Club Jam on Main Street in Pittston will sponsor a free Thanksgiving Dinner for underprivileged members of the Greater Pittston community on Thanksgiving Day, November 26.
Organizers are seeking co-sponsors from local businesses and volunteers from the community to aid in this endeavor.

The King’s College Players will continue the theatre season with a full-dress production of Henrik Ibsen’s ground-breaking play, “An Enemy of the People.” The play, which explores the ethical dilemma between truth and prosperity, will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 18-21, in the King’s Theatre, located in the Administration Building on North River Street.
Written by Ibsen and adapted by master playwright Arthur Miller, “An Enemy of the People” is set in a small Norwegian town that has just begun to win fame and wealth as a result of its medicinal spring waters. Unfortunately, resident physician Dr. Stockmann discovers that the water is actually poisoned. Dr. Stockmann attempts to expose the truth to save the town; however, his brother, who also happens to be the town’s mayor, tells him he must retract his statements because the repairs would be too expensive. Blackmailed and facing eviction from his home, Dr. Stockmann, through the moral support of his family, carries on his fight for the truth.
King’s Theatre Department brings a cast of 20 students to the stage. Cast members include Colin Walsh, Northampton (Dr. Thomas Stockmann); Ashley Owens, Oradell, N.J., (Catherine Stockmann); Jason Alfano, Pittston (Mayor Peter Stockmann); Brandon Leon-Gambetta, Newton, Conn., (Morten Kiil); and, Lukas Tomasacci, Shickshinny (Captain Horster).Ticket prices are $10; students/senior citizens, $5.

Friends of Bob and Donna Kolbeck are holding a benefit pasta dinner at the Lithuanian Club Hall, 7 Butler Street, Pittston on Sunday, November 15 from 12 noon to 6 p.m. Dinner is $8, and take-outs are available all day.
A one day bus trip to New York City will be held on Saturday, November 21st to raise money for breast cancer research. The bus will depart from Wegman’s in Wilkes-Barre at 7:30 a.m. and will leave New York around 7:30 p.m.
Participants will be free to schedule and arrange their own activities for that day. Tickets are $30. A fundraising auction will be held on the bus en route to the city. All monies raised will go directly to the American Cancer Society’s breast cancer research fund.

On Sunday, December 6, “A Blessed Christmas” concert by the Wyoming Valley Barbershop Harmony Chorus and special guests will be held at the Shavertown United Methodist Church, 163 N. Pioneer Ave., Shavertown.
