Wilkes announces local summer graduates

Wilkes University held its summer commencement ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 13. in the Arnaud C. Marts Sports and Conference Center, Wilkes-Barre. The University awarded about 500 degrees and about 100 undergraduate and graduate students attended the ceremony.

Hughestown Lions Scholarship Winners-

President Steve Golya is proud to announce the Clarence Hensley Scholarship Award Winners. Each recipient received $250.00 from the club to help further their education. All winners are from Hughestown Borough. A dinner was held in honor of the winners.

Dean’s List-

Heidi Seitzinger of Wyoming has been notified on being named to the Dean’s List for the 2009 Spring semester at Ferris State University College of Allied Health Services, Michigan. She had earned a GPA of 3.5 or above for the semester. Heidi is a junior in the Health Information Technology program and pre-radiography. Heidi is a 2007 graduate of Wyoming Area High School.

Recent Grad-

Private First Class Brent Platukus, son of Kevin and Erica Platukus of Exeter graduated from United States Marine Corps boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island SC on August 14, 2009. PFC Platukus successfully completed 13 weeks of intensive basic training at MCRD Parris Island SC as one of 77 recruits in Training Platoon 1053.

While in basic training PFC Platukus was meritoriously promoted to Private First Class and became one of four squad leads of Platoon 1053. Platoon 1053 was the honorary platoon of the MCRD Parris Island SC graduation.

Following ten days home on leave he will report to Camp LeJeune for one moth at Military Combat Training then Military Occupation Specialty School. PFC Platukus is a 2008 graduate from Wyoming Area School District.

Roast Beef Dinner-

The Northmoreland Twp. Vol Fire Co. will hold a Roast Beef Dinner on Sept. 23 from 5 to 7pm at their Fire Hall on Demunds Road, Centermorland.

Eat in or Take-out, tickets available from any Fire Co. member or at the door, Adults $7, Children 12 & under $4.
