Marissa Christina Halat and Charles David Vaccaro, together with their families, announce their engagement and approaching marriage.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward J. Halat of Dupont. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. James W. Dillon, Port Griffith, Mrs. Josephine Halat, Pittston and the late Edward E. Halat. Marissa is a graduate of Seton Catholic High School. She graduated from Bloomsburg University with a B.S. in Elementary Education and earned her Masters in Special Education from Wilkes University. Marissa is employed with the Scranton School District as a Special Education Teacher.

The prospective groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Vaccaro of Pittston. He is the grandson of the late Marie and James Caruthers and the late Sam and Grace Vaccaro. Charles is a graduate of Pittston Area High School. He graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Administration of Justice. Charles is employed with Youth Service Agency as a Case Manager and Step by Step as a Residential Program Worker.

The couple will exchange vows on August 7, 2009 at Saint John the Evangelist Church in Pittston.
